Because he isn't better than Gerrard. It's ok replacing players including Gerrard but it has to be with players that are better . Henderson isn't , Allen isn't , in fact no one is better and that's why Gerrard will start every game. Subbing him I agree with but you don't drop him unless you have the squad and the players to improve on him - we don't.

but he is better than gerrard at screening the defence, i dont blame you for putting your hands over your eyes in the last 20 minutes of games recently, infact i`ve felt like doing it myself, but next time try peering through your fingers and you`ll notice gerrard walking around with his hands on his hips.
i think hendo and lucas will give our defence more protection than lucas and gerrard.

Said it before, will say it one last time, Gerrard wouldn't need to do half the running if he had quality players around him, unforunately he has Henderson, Lucas and Aspas and recently Skrtel and a selfish striker upfront. You're right, he isn't good enough to Carry Lucas and Henderson anymore, totally agree with you and they are leaving him completely exposed. He is stil quite literally twice the player of both who will score more goals, win more tackles, complete more passes, set more goals up and generally do a hell of a lot more than both of those two put together in a season.

The only thing Henderson has over Gerrard is stamina.

Henderson struggles to protect his tissues !! He isn't a player to sit in front of the back 4 - hence why he has never played that exact position.

Henderson has done well over the last 9 months and I'm one of his fans but his impact is getting massively overstated - he is a good energetic player who gets into good positions going forward ! But he can't tackle his way out of a wet paper bag and doesn't have the range of passing to play alongside Lucas.

gerrard is giving the ball away more than anyone and as for winning more tackles he turned his back on a feigned shot against swansea!
look steven gerrard is the best player i`ve ever seen in a red shirt and i went to my first match in the early to mid 70`s, i rate him higher than players who won title after title and played in 3 or 4 european cup finals but no one, and i mean no one, can escape the affects of father time.
even you must be able to see that he hasnt got 90 minutes in his legs anymore, when players get to the stage where they arent able to complete a full game then they are deffo in the twilight of their careers.

Really? You're blaming Shelvey's first goal on that "mistake"? Come off it. Anyone on the planet can see why that mistake was made. Thats clutching at straws at best.

And break it down to when he is going for Hollywood long passes because he has always gone for those passes which are risky and don't help any stats

We've moved into a topic being days discussed elsewhere now. If I was Brendan, I'd use Gerrard more sparingly, but he'd always be first on the team sheet. He's still our talisman. Suarez and Agger are vital, but for different reasons. Gerrard is the direct link to the crowd. He's the one on the pitch that even Suarez looks up to. And he's the skipper. 60 or 70 minutes a match sounds about right. But we need someone better than what we have to be learning his role.

This is why I started the thread about loaning out young players. Clearly there are no players in the current crop deemed worthy of even sitting on the bench and learn the Anfield experience. The ones who have made it are squad players at best, when not so long ago we were finding Fowler and co. Of course that's not BR's fault. But a whole generation, with only Sterling and Kelly to show for it.

When Gerrard leaves, We're going to need two to replace him. He was that good. He must be replaced and pretty sharpish, but we need TWO central midfield players, not one. One of the two, should be Lallana from Southampton, before someone else snaps him up. Cabaye is another I'd look at.

Yakka, I think you're overreacting a bit because of yesterday's game. Gerrard obviously isn't what he used to be and doesn't have the legs to play week in week out for 90 minutes, but to not include him in our best 11 while you include Henderson and Lucas is ridiculous.

Like Benny said, it might be OK to sub off Gerrard at some point of the game because he doesn't have the energy to endure the whole game. After the first half, he can't chase players and he doesn't track back. What's also worrying is that when he actually does chase players, they usually beat him for pace. Last night we saw that he can't even keep the ball or pass it properly once he gets tired. To say it simply, he becomes a liability after some time.

But to say that he doesn't belong in our first 11 is ludicrous, especially considering the rest of our midfielders. Currently, we have no one else to make sure that we have a flowing game. He knows when to keep it simple and when to hit it long, and he knows how to do it as well. Lucas knows how to make a good pass every now and then but passing isn't really his main trait, while Henderson's decision making is horrible and he never takes responsibility.

Unfortunately, we have no one else capable of doing what Gerrard does. Until that changes we can't put him out of the starting 11.

I still think that we should go for Xabi Alonso in the winter. Won't be expensive and I believe he will come here if we're serious enough. I think he might change a lot of things here.

It would be nice for us to be linked with players of that quality still. Don't forget though Xabi is no child himself. Alonso and Lallana would be the stuff dreams are made of wet stuff infact... 

But seriously, Mata and Alonso are two players that the club should be linked with, even if they were to reject us, it would show ambition and intent, which frankly is alot more than we've shown since Rodgers took charge. (*disclaimer, that doesn't mean I'm saying Coutinho was a bad signing, just that it wasn't ambitious as such)

Last thing I'll say, watch his performances improve and stamina "increase" when Suarez comes back into the side.
