Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Don't know if it was tactical or luck, these first two wins. too early to say really. We rode our luck V Stoke with the penalty save, and on another day, Mignolet may not have saved those shots like he did V Villa. We looked  a bit frail second half, not much attacking/ dropping off too much. perhaps the lack of strength and depth of the squad.

i'm not sure what Lucas does that's so amazing to keep getting cameo roles in the team. He ain't that impressive, nor Joe Allen.

I'll reserve judgement as to where we stand with Rodgers tactics, until at least another few games into the season.

When Suarez returns we need to be playing a 4-4-2, not 4-3-3. with Coutinho just off front two as the link man. something like:

              Mignolet

Johnson  Agger Toure  Enrique
    Hendo   Lucas  Gerrard
              Coutinho
      Sturridge   Suarez.

but we are where we are, and two games two wins is certainly good enough.

You said we need to be playing 4-4-2 then put them in a 4-3-1-2 formation ???

I know it is only a couple of games but it our best start to the season for a very long time. Momentum and confidence is everything and just maybe this will give the owners the confidence they need to invest more money in players and the club. Their confidence was seriously damaged soon after they bought the club. Hopefully it is now beginning to recover and we can enjoy the ride....

Devaney, mate, I think we may have left it a little late in the window to add a player or two to the first team. Doesn't seem like BR was dithering over who he wanted, thankfully he didn't go back to Swansea for additions. But it seems like he know who he wanted but the owners wouldn't write the cheque.
Still not sure he knows our best first team though....

I don't know why BR didn't make any effort to sign Benteke and M.Diame of W.Ham. If we can have those 2 additions, then we will be serious chanllengers for top 4. It seems like none of the top sides are going after those 2 gems. But then, with these owners we can only have the cash if Suarez were sold. There is not much future under FSG.

i think rodgers made it pretty clear in that press conference the other day that he`s not entirely convinced himself that this tactic of scraping around for cheap signings, cast off`s and loan deals will be enough to overtake the teams above us, especially over a gruelling 9 month campaign.
he`s just trying to do the best job he can with the tools fsg have given him.

I would never blame Brendan for this messy transfer window. He's done very well with the resources he's been given and actually improved the squad. It's annoying that we have got rid of our highest earners to free up the wage bill, sold players like Carroll and Downing, got all the TV and sponsorship money, Got the money from season tickets sold ... and FSG still dont give Brendan the money to buy a marquee signing.

Spurs are the team we should take examples from next year if this year goes tits up.

18 million pounds for Mamadou Sakho IS a MARQUEE signing. Can't see why fans are completely ignoring this signing - 18 million pounds is top money for a defender after all.

Best start to a season since '94. First time we've kept three consecutive clean sheets to start a Prem season. I like Brendan  :)
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road
