Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The season was pretty much lost between last summer and November.
Sending Carroll on loan and failing to bring in a replacement was an absolute catastrophe.  Forced us to use Sterling to the point were the kid burned out and lost confidence quickly.

Adopting a completely new system takes time and we had to be patient with that.

Lucas getting injured and Gerrards early season form didn't help either.

Since then though, we've been much better and the January signings have really improved us.  Also Enrique, Downing and Hendo have found form.  Gerrard has found form and Lucas has returned.

A good summer and we should be challenging next season.  If not, then we might need to question the manager.  Now is not the time for that though.

Have to ask this.....hope someone here gives me an answer....

1)Why the F**K  is BR so reluctant to use 3 subs in a match......

We could be winning handsomely......Drawing or Losing a match...and he makes 1 substitution (sometimes 2). Why the f**k isn't he using all 3 substitutions ?

Rubbish, take out Suarez & we are the equivalent of Reading in goal scoring. Man City have Aguero, Tevez, Džeko, Silva, Touré all scoring goals.

I put second to man city therefore why you have mentioned a load of city players is beyhond me

Top 7 teams in the league and their forward options

UTD - RVP Rooney Hernandez Welbeck
City - Aguero Tevez Dzeko David Silva
Chelsea - Ba Torres Hazard Mata Oscar
Spurs - Bale Defoe Adebayor
Arsenal - Giroud Podolski Walcott Gervinho
Everton - Fellani Anichebe Jelavic mirralas
Liverpool - Suarez Sturridge Coutinho Downing

I know the simple way to figure out which team has the best forwards etc - look at the results and table.

???

We've scored more than Man City, Spurs and Everton who are all above us in the table, so when it comes to a conversation about who has the best forwards your declaration doesn't make sense

Yet those forwards couldn't score against the worst team in the league by a country mile. We have managed to have a few 5 or 3 nil wins in the odd games that boosts the goal tally but overall we have one outstanding forward in Suarez and when he doesn't score the others don't help the team.

In eight premiership games when Suarez hasn't scored nobody has scored-

West Brom 0-3
Arsenal 0-2
Stoke 0-0
Swansea 0-0
Spurs 1-2 (Bale o.g.)
West Brom 0-2
West Ham 0-0
Reading 0-0

In ten premiership games when Suarez hasn't scored or started these players have scored-

Man United 1-2 Gerrard
Reading 1-0 Sterling
Southampton 1-0 Agger
West Ham 3-2 Johnson, Cole, Shelvey
Aston Villa 1-3 Gerrard
Stoke 1-3 Gerrard
Man United 1-2 Sturridge
Man City 2-2 Sturridge, Gerrard
Southampton 1-3 Countinho
Aston Villa 2-1 Henderson, Gerrard

I don't agree.

We are further down the pecking order in my opinion, if you take out the main star player of of each team's forward line we have the youngest & most inexperienced forwards.

Chelsea, UTD are above us for sure. Spurs, Arsenal & Everton would be even but only with Suarez & Gerrard in.

Look at our forwards

Sturridge made a great start but his recent form has been poor.

Coutinho made a big impact but he is no Hazard or Silva (not yet!) but you can see he has a killer pass in him already.

Downing has been ok of late but can easily fade away in games.

We simply are not good enough to be rated that highly and more importantly we don't show up when it really counts. If we won all those games when we failed to score after dominating for most of the game, we could be third on the table.

Sturridge 9 games for us 5 goals.Thats a return of over 1 in 2. Ill take that from him next year.

You can not possibly say that Silva and Hazard have out performed Coutinho since his arrival. Silva is having a poor season and Hazard well isnt really living up to expectation.

What's interesting to check is the percentage of scoring to attempts. I'm less impressed with a striker which has a hat full but needs a million chances to net one in.
