The squad is still too small, so a couple of new faces would be welcome.

so you've written off borini who's played probably 5-6 games and allen who started really well but who's form has dipped.

brilliant.

rafa`s first signings were alonso, luis garcia and josemi.
alonso will be remembered as one of the most stylish players ever to wear a red shirt and luis garcia could be frustrating but one thing is for certain we wouldnt have won the CL in 2005 without his goals (against the likes of bayer leverkusen, juventus and chelsea).
garcia and gerrard were our joint top scorers in europe that season.
hardly failures!!

Well done for stating the obvious, I was talking of the likes of (in his first 18 months):

£2m - Josemi: peanuts and was moved on in a swap for Kromkamp 18 months later
£1.5m - Antonio Nunez: part of the Michael Owen deal and filled a gap for a while. Peanuts.
Free - Pelligrino: Stop gap that allowed us to rest Sami for league games, benefitting us massively in Istanbul. Now on the coaching staff.
£6.3m - Fernando Morientes: Pretty much everyone made up when we signed him, top class, but never settled. Sold for £3m to Valencia.
£1m - Scott Carson: One the most highly rated young keepers around. Lost out through injury and signing of Reina when Dudek left the club. Sold for £3.25m.
£240,000 - Antonio Barragan: Kid for the future. Sold for £675,000 to Deportivo a year later.
Free - Boudewijn Zenden: Signed for nothing and released for nothing. Did a job for us.
£5.6m - Momo Sissoko: Brilliant for a few years, had that eye injury and sold to Juventus when his form dipped for £8.2m. Replaced by Mascherano.
Unkown - Miki Roque: Kid bought for peanuts. Sold again for an unknown amount.
£150,000 - Jack Hobbs: Highly rated 16yr old signed from Lincoln. Didn't progress as hoped and sold to Leicester for a reported £1.5m, although figure not confirmed.
£190,000 Besian Idrizaj: No idea who he is
£1.5m - Mark Gonzales: Cheap player to provide back up for the left wing. Sold for £3.5m to Real Betis.
Exchange - Paul Anderson: Swapped for John Welsh. Sold for £250,000.
Exchange - Jan Kromkamp: Swapped for Josemi. Later sold for £1.75m

look at the cost of those players though!! no wonder they were a bit hit and miss
apart from morientes and momo that looks like the outlay of a championship or first division club, not a club trying to compete with the likes of chelsea, united and arsenal.

just seen an interview with ayre on sly sports. he says they are working hard on adding new faces. he said rodgers has his own visions and players in mind to bring us forward but january is difficult time to do business.
he also said no truth in the schneider rumours.
i think we have money to spend and he will be backed but im not too confident he will buy the right players we need. ive always believed since fsg dumped the D.O.F role that rodgers is the one with full control and if we are not buying stars it isnt because we have no money but because brendan doesnt want them and would prefer to buy his special players that he wants at any cost.
is it really a wise move by fsg to give him this much control ? without any experience to oversee it.
risky move imo.

Is it because Brendan cant manage stars?  (as in manage their characters or feels intimidated by them?) Why would he persist with building a squad of unknowns?

but steven gerrard and luis suarez are two of the biggest names in football and he has no problem managing them.

Its funny to see how the DOF role always ends up getting so much blame for everything. With Kenny as manager the DOF apparently didnt listen to Kenny at all, didnt work in the PL, and was the problem behind all our flops. Now that we dont have a DOF, the lack of one gets the blame for all our flops.

he is very inexperienced reg and allen for that price was probably the most he has ever had to spend on the one player. we could have bought much better for that fee but he was hell bent on getting him and probably would have went higher.
i think that he would feel intimidated managing a team with van persies, ballotelli's,tevez's and the like as maybe they wouldnt buy into his philosophy and arent as impressionable as the younger lads. he seems to favour players he has worked with before and maybe that is an indication of it.
gerrard was spot on when he said he wasnt fully supportive of the transfer policy he has and thats because he realises he will probably waste the rest of his carreer here never getting C.L football again.

van gaal would have been a good move by fsg if they had of stuck to their guns.
we need proper football people in this club to be making decisions and work with him as it is a long road to where we want to be and he needs help imo. its about getting the right blend of people to make that happen and we dont have anything other than an inexperienced manager and ian ayre.
cause for concern, i think so.

If Van Gaal had joined Liverpool, he should have joined as manager. We need someone of his calibre and experience to bring us forward. BR is still young and inexperienced and he is also a Work In Progress together with the team. Only time can tell whether he will come out good.

"We’re 24 points behind United now,” said Rodgers. “But we’re not 24 points behind in terms of quality. The points difference is due to the squad."

:Oo:  :Oo:

Why on earth would you say things like that?

I'm happy overall with the progress under Rodgers.

We have reduced the wage bill, reduced the squad age and are playing good football in general.

We are currently 8th, where we finished last season, and I expect us to improve that with a good 2nd half to the season. All of a sudden we also have better attacking options with sturridge signing and borini coming back.

There is plenty to be optimistic about. I think Rodgers will be here for a long time so those calling for his head will be disappointed.
