Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

rodgers is the manager mate and he had all summer to sort out his striking options.

I don't think many people can argue this point ycsatbjywtbiastkamb.

If he was told that he couldn't get a player until Carroll was sold / loan he should have not have waited until the last week / day of the transfer window to sort this out.

As much flack as Benitez, Hodgson and Dalglish copped I can't recall them leaving anything to the last day (granted we got Carroll as a panic buy on the last day that was more Judas' fault then anything else)
I don't think Rodgers wanted to leave as late himself but i think the fact we paid so much for Carroll meant that the club wanted to wait until the last minute for a possible better offer. When this didn't come we allowed him to go to West Ham on loan and then tried to get in Dempsey. That's the part that didn't go well and i blame the people doing the negotiations not the manager! due to the terrible use of funds in recent years BR looks like he points out who he wants but the purchasing of that player and the amount we pay sits with Ian Ayre and FSG.

i personally think Carroll should have been given the chance to prove himself but it's not what BR wanted so we have to respect that and support the team/squad he assembles over the next year. I think we are showing signs that the team are getting his way of play now. ok there are a few concerns regarding the ease in which teams are scoring against us but if the chances start going in instead of hitting the cross bar and post we will be up there.

we look so lightweight up front but we have probably the most physical CF in world football on our books but we cant play him because we have loaned him out? with decision making like that it`s no wonder we are 4th from bottom
if everton beat newcastle tonight at goodison they go second in the league, if that happens that wont improve the mood of the local fans either. it`s not even as if everton have had an easy start, by tonight they`d have played united, villa (away), west brom (away) and newcastle.

If Carroll was still with us he'd be out injured for the next 11 weeks instead of being injured for West Ham for the next 11 weeks. Have people already forgotten how abysmally ***** Carroll was for us?
Having said that it was of course a mistake letting him go without getting a replacement but I do not blame Brendan, I think he was either misled by the board or there was allmighty cockup.
In any case the situation is what it is and there nothign we can do until January so lets just get behind the team and support them. I feel we are improving week by week and all we need is for Borini and/or Suarez to rediscover their touch in front of goal and we'll start picking up plenty of wins. Would also be great if we can bring in some of the young strikers and please please lets drop Stevie to the bench he's hindering us now.

mate, why do you keep saying carroll was abysmal for us? during the second half of last season he was one of our best players and by the seasons end he probably was our best player.
granted he didnt score tons of goals but he was making a major contribution, for instance he didnt score when we beat everton 3-0 at home or when we beat united 2-1 in the F.A cup or when we mullered chelsea at anfield but he was probably MoM in all 3 games.
and i dont know why you are mentioning his injury for, if rodgers hadnt have frozen him out and if he`d had a proper pre season he probably wouldnt have got injured in the first place.
re gerrard i agree he has been playing $*i*e recently but i thought he was a bit better on saturday and it would be a brave decision to drop him with united coming up.

Please tell me how in hell Carroll could have been MOM in the Everton game where Stevie scored a hattrick??? I was actually at that game and believe me when I say that he was fairly invisible as he was in most of our games last season. I agree he improved a bit towards the end of the season though but no where near enough.
Please tell me though what the primary function of a striker is becuase I always thought it was to score goals and by that definition Carroll was awful for us and will always be awful for us. Maybe he'll play ok at a sh1tty little team like West Ham but he is no where near the standard which we want to be aiming for.

Our season REALLY starts this Sunday.

If we do a good job on the Scum, I will forgive Brendan for the first four games.

Heimdall - Carroll was not invisible at all in both Derbies - he scored the winner in the first , set up Gerrards second and had a hand in the first with a great ball to Suaraz who then set up Gerrard. Please stop making up lies.

Forgive him for what? We should have beaten Shitteh and Sunderland. Have some patience fella. Sure we'd love to be in the top four already but nothing is decided in September. Please give the manager a fair chance to mould a team and system of play. Do you not think we are playing a more attractive style of football already? New teams are not created overnight.

I agree. Thought Carroll was effective in the derby matches. He isn't around now so doesn't really matter but he was a decent alternative weapon and surely better than having nowt on the bench instead.

I really hope he gets recalled in January and gets an opportunity to prove himself.

Really? Should we destroy our credability as a proffesional club ,hurt Westham ,and then what? Rodgers made a dire mistake by not finding a replacement for Carrol but the answer isn't recalling him but spending the time till January finding and signing the player he really wants.

Players get recalled all the time, there is nothing unprofessional about it. West Ham would have agreed to that as part of the loan agreement.

Football is a survival of the fittest environment and if it means recalling Carroll in January then so be it. West Ham have a transfer window and a longer loan window to replace if necessary.

I agree it's legal but it's pretty low class move in my book, try to imagine it was the other way and Sahin would be recalled to Madrid...I don't know i'm not feeling comfertable with such kind of dealings.

If the loan stipulated that both clubs agreed a recall option then I would bring him back. I wouldn't feel like we have acted inappropriately and neither would WHU be entitled to feel hard done by. But this is all theoretical! It's upto BR if he thinks a recall would help.

I believe that letting Bellamy go was far worse than not getting dempsey or not keeping Carroll

Bellers is a big miss. Ironically he left us to be 'close with family' but is now living separately from his family anyway.

I'd imagine there's not an option for a recall immediately, they paid £2m just to loan him didn't they? I'm sure there'll be an issue surrounding that fee should we want to recall him
