Kelly is very good and still learning and maybe one day he will be as good as Skrtel. Not sure about Coates at this stage and he could not be regarded as a suitable replacement. If City want him they have ridiculous funds so we should demand a minimum of £30m.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

he recently had a good season under Kenny and suddenly we need to match his ambitions?
wtf is this?

I totally agree with you but it is also true to say that Alonso best seasons were his first and last but look what he has gone onto achieve at RM. I would hate for the same thing to happen with Martin.

Kelly is a good future shout, however at the moment he doesn't have the physical presence to cope against big strikers in the premiership.

He would get run ragged by a Drogba type.

why on earth would we want to let him go now? he's just beginning to match the potential that we wanted when we signed him.
him and agger were immense last season and have forged a proper partnership going forward and now we want to break it up for a paltry 20 mil.who are we going to replace him with?.get real if we think kelly or coates is ready for such a big step up next season.
my biggest fear is that over the next year we will lose any decent player we have and end up weakening the team with bargain basement replacements.
he might be looking for a new deal but i doubt fsg will match what city will offer so it will come down to the player and whether he's willing to sit on the bench and pick up a fat cheque for it.
rodgers needs to sort it out and keep him here, where he belongs.

I wouldnt sell him.

The partnership with Agger last season was one of the only plus points.

There are plenty of other parts of the team that actually do need changing, the centre backs arent one of them.

The fact we had Skrtel in our side last year is also the reson we finished top half. We need to keep this guy along with Agger they fight for the club. Ive said it before we have the best defence in the league lets keep it that way

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has admitted receiving offers to move to other clubs and said: "Anything can happen."

Skrtel, 27 - who won the Player of the Year award as Liverpool finished in a disappointing eighth position last season - is reported to be frustrated by the club's failure to challenge for the Premier League title.

Speculation suggests that champions Manchester City are interested in signing the Slovakian international although his agent, Karol Csonto, had previously insisted his client was staying at Anfield.

Speaking to the Slovakian newspaper Dennik Sport, Skrtel - who joined Liverpool from Zenit St Petersburg for £6 million in 2008 - said: "I am Liverpool player because I have a valid contract here.

"There have been a number of offers [from other clubs], but without Liverpool's permission nothing can move forward. We have been in talks about a new contract, but it has not moved forward.

"At the moment I am a Liverpool player, and what happens in future in football you can never foresee. Anything can happen, but for now I have a valid contract and what is to come will come."

Skrtel praised the new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who took over from Kenny Dalglish earlier in the summer, saying he had created a more relaxed atmosphere at the club.

"He is absolutely OK," he said. "His motto is an open approach towards players, and he is very human in the way he tries to communicate with us as much as possible. Thanks to him, the atmosphere within the club has changed. It is now more relaxed.

"I must highlight the openness of the new manager. He told us at the first training session that the door was always open and, anything we need, we should come to him. He is a little bit different from Dalglish in this."

Rodgers, meanwhile, has confirmed that he would be interested in bringing midfielder Joe Allen to Liverpool from his former club Swansea.

Allen is under contract at the Liberty Stadium, but Rodgers said: "I have a great relationship with Swansea - but if there is a market for any of the players I would like to be in that market.

"They respect that. He [Allen] is a very talented player, which everyone knows, but there is nothing more at the moment."

Ah yes, we have seen this before, average players who have one season wonders with their club the next moment they think they are world's best, demand a new contract or leave for a better club

f*ck off Skrtel...

I don't want him to go either, but in all honesty I think Agger is the better player of the two.

Things aren't looking good in the back right now tho, because we had a solid defense we weren't worried about chaining, and now there's all these rumors saying Skrtel could be off and Agger could be courted by Barca.

Id rather keep him but he is being a total tool.

"He is absolutely OK," LMAO i dont know if that bad english but its still a great comment. "All i know is my gut says maybe"

"His motto is an open approach towards players. (unless your a big lump that plays upfront :glare: )

If he does go we must hodl firm to a price and make sure get it.

we arent acting like a club that has ambitions to compete at the top of the game and players pick up on that.
the likes of skrtel and agger are 27/28, how are they going to feel when the manager says we may be able to compete with the top sides in 4 years time?
this is the problem with these long term philosophies, good experienced players dont want to waste the best years of their footballing lives waiting for the likes of borini and joe allen to turn 25.
the way the club is acting (uninspiring transfer targets, spurs beating us to players signatures, manager playing down expectations, club saying we have to sell to buy) we are going to struggle to keep our top players.

If we get a big money offer then bye bye Skrtel as far as I'm concerned if he wants to go. Same goes for Agger and whoever else.

Agger is made of glass and Skrtel had a good season after a few seasons of being average bordering on poor.  Last season Agger stayed relatively injury free for him and anytime I see Skrtel play alongside anyone else, including last season, he looks dodgy.

I think Skrtel is angling for a better contract and Agger seems to genuinely like the club, but if Barce came calling he still might be tempted.

My preference would be to keep both, but neither of them are irreplaceable. It wouldn't be a Torres/ Masch / Alonso like situation if we lost one of them but it would be a shame as they were just starting to look a good partnership (albeit depending on Agger's fitness).
