good question Lee

I honestly don't know about Carroll, having watched Swansea's pass and move I can't see Carroll fitting into it. Our midfield has been the problem so I think what you've put is about right, can't help but think a Swansea CM is coming with him. I think Downing will be fine tho

getting rid of him is the problem, recouping anywhere near what we paid for him and him taking a wage reduction

I think Lucas will be safe. He was excellent last season until off course he got injured.

Carroll will be fine and he is better on the ground than a lot give credit for

This is from 13th May

Brendan Rodgers was praiseful of Andy Carroll as he believes the striker is hitting form and confidence at last following his move
“I thought Liverpool were excellent in midweek and Andy Carroll was really impressive,” said Rodgers in today's Wales on Sunday.
“It shows it’s a totally different pressure when you play for a big club like Liverpool. You are expected to win every single game and it was new for him.
“The adaptation takes time and forget about the football, it was a life change.
“He was bought for the long term. He didn’t put the price tag on his head. He’s a young kid who I have seen come through the England ranks. It was always going to take time.
“But we are starting to see the first real performances that you think he can go on and become a really fantastic player for Liverpool.
“He looked lean, mobile and great in his physicality the other night and his touch was good.
“He got a boost from his cameo in the FA Cup final and he’ll be coming here to do well.
“I don’t think Kenny’s been a failure. He’s got them to two cup finals, winning one and going close in the other one.
“Liverpool is an incredible club with history of winning leagues and European Cups, but the reality is they are trying to build back towards that.
“The Liverpool supporters and public probably see no better man to do it. He’s had a history of success at the club, both as a player and manager. He has the ultimate respect.
“He has a brilliant coach in Steve Clarke, who I know well and speak regularly to so he has a strong team behind him. It just takes time.”

Downings crossing wasn't the problem - it was no one in the box to attack them.

nice that benny. thanks for that. (the article above!)

As for Brendan...   he must have a stiffy on at the prospect of working with Suarez. I bet he walks into that training ground and says... 'you just wait until I get this lot playing football!' to Suarez.

I think if Brendan brings his football brand with him Suarez will love it.

is correct. Lost count of the number of times he rifled a brilliant low cross that went right along the penalty area and there was no one there to meet it.

Andy Carroll has improved, but he will have to improve his mobility and get on the end of stuff rather than constantly be behind play.

With Rodgers philosophy based on a fluid passing system and closing down opponents quickly, two aspects Carroll struggles at, it will be interesting to see how he copes with this.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... rpool.html

"Rodgers seeks to create as many ‘lines’ across the field as possible. In his system you have a minimum of seven lines. He wants his goalkeeper to be part of the play, then the centre backs, then what he calls the ‘controller’ (a deep-lying playmaker), then the full-backs pushed on, the two attacking midfielders, the wingers and then the centre-forward. That allows you to draw seven horizontal lines across the pitch"

The controller... that we havent had since Alonso left... that is the single most important area we must address in the transfer window.

Adam, Aquilani, Mereiles and co have not been good enough.

This is year zero, and FSG have their man.  This is what they wanted at the end of last season, but KK salvaged the season and was given a three year deal and ended in tatters.

I've been waiting for a manager to play attacking football since Roy Evans and finally we have one.  I want to see good football being played at Anfield and, although a gamble, I believe FSG got it right.  All this talk about needing a manager with "big club experience"  is overblown and it's not like BR hasn't been at a big club before, just not as manager.  I'm excited for the future under Rogers, but it will take the patience and full support of the fans, owners, and most importantly, the players.  The system Rogers uses requires 11 men working seamlessly as a team, no luxury players.

This system seems to need total "buy-in" or it will be a disaster.  This is where patience will need to be a necessity for all associated with the club.  Players will have to get on board or pack their bags.  That's from Gerrard all the way down.

It is impossible to predict where we will be when the dust settles after next season's campaign, but the footy will be attractive.  I, for one, look forward to it. :buttrock

I've been reading threads all day, and I still can't make my mind up
On one hand, I think he obviously plays a great style of football and I'm delighted to
see the first Irishman (yes, Irish) get the Liverpool job.
On the other hand, he's relatively inexperienced at this level so i reckon the whole
thing could become overwhelming and he won't win over the dressing room, which is
always the most important thing.

Feck it, lets just get behind the guy and hope for the best...

A lot of fans will be waiting with bated breath i reckon
