if ever any player deserves a league title before he retires it's this guy. if not he'll easily go down as the best player never to win it.

great news to wake up to

here's the clip of our Stevie putting Mancini in his place

clicky :D
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Stevie you are IMHO the best player to play for LFC, no disrespect to kenny but kenny had brilliant players around him,and we were top dogs at the time. Stevies virtually won the EC and FA cups single handally. I salute you Stevie.

Agree completely.

No one, in the club's history, has single-handedly done more than Steven George Gerrard.

Kenny was anonymous in the 1981 and 1984 EC Final wins.. didnt get a kick in either. Had Gerrard been anonymous in Istanbul we'd have lost by half a dozen. He has virtually carried us for a decade.

Did you really just say that about Kenny ?

Shocking - I see you convieniently missed out on him scoring the winner in his first EC final .

No one touches Kenny - won everything as a player and everything he could as a manager also .

He also didn't threaten to walk out to one of our main rivals twice.

Gerrard didn't win the CL and FA Cup on his own - it was a team effort and Gerrard needed his teammates to help him win it .

while I think Kenny's contributions have been underemphasised, yours about Gerrard are also just that. That team in 05 should have got trounced on paper and without Stevie it very much would have. The guy has lead by example since he was made Liverpool captain and the fact he's still havin this much of an impact speaks volumes of a man everyone thought was finished. He aint even close

Gerrard played as a center back, a right back, an attacking midfielder and a central midfielder in 05 final

To say he single handled got those wins shows disrespect to other players during that run that were massive .

Alonso's performance away at Juve when Gerrard didn't play
Hyypia against Juve in both legs
Garcia against Juve and Bayer
Carra in the Chelsea game

Gerrard won the final group game with that strike but Mellor and Pongolle turned it in our favour .

Gerrard got it all going in the final with a great header but others contributed - Smicer , Didi and Dudek.

No doubt Gerrard is our best modern player and he is truely world class and at times has dragged the team through a game but he will never touch Kenny .

I did make one oversight... ON the field no one has single-handedly done more than Gerrard.

Off the field of course what Kenny did for the victims of Hillsborough was, by all accounts, incredible. Then there is his management which is also magificent.

As regards the contribution of both as players... Gerrard has played in a pretty ordinary side in comparison. The season he started (few sub appearances and odd start at full back) he was playing for a team that wouldn't qualify for the UEFA Cup. When Kenny started he was joining the English and European champions. As for his goal against Brugge.. quality finish.. but you dont get anyone saying he won us the cup single-handedly (we were better than them in every single position, and highly likely we would have won without Kenny). Bar Gerrard, we were inferior to Milan in almost every position, and without his Superman act we would have lost by a bigger margin than 3 goals. Kenny played in a world class team that won two European Cups when he was anonymous in both finals, and was subbed both times (not decrying Kenny btw, injury may have been a factor). Take out Kenny we were still winning major cups, take out Gerrard we win nowt.
