PEPE REINA - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I am pretty sure he has not said anything about being unhappy.  Just somebody earlier saying he looks unhappy!!!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Agree completely. I think the Torres situation knocked many of us for six.. and gave us a real dose of reality that these people are employees not fans.. they dont have the affinity for clubs as we do. "His armband says hes a red"...etc etc..that was OUR perception as fans, not his. I admit i thought he liked us more than he actually did so was pretty f**ked off as everyone else.

Even Stevie almost left us (but in the end his genuine love for the club over-rided his desire to move). Pepe has spoken of Arsenal and he is clearly missing Champions League football. Suarez will start having mumblings pretty soon too hence our need to bring in better players around him to keep him satisfied and fight for honours.

Players are beneath us when it comes to loyalty. In terms of loyalty and love for the club i have more respect for any kopite than any player who has ever worn the red jersey. Kenny is a club legend..and that club legend took great delight as manager of Newcastle when Warren Barton scored to make it 3-3 at Anfield and left us pig sick (before God headed home the winner). You often hear an ex player "playing against my old team is extra special, it would be amazing to score in that game". Have to laugh at the bitters who talk of players as being "evertonians"... yeah that Rooney is a real "evertonian" as he hammers the ball into the bitters net for the umpteenth time and then wheels off in delight.

Its a job, they are employees.. some of these employees have MORE affinity for a club than other employees, but nowhere close to what we do as fans. It especially sickened me during the stadium debate when they wheeled out former Liverpool players (Barnes and Houghton) who were FOR a shared stadium (as if what they say matters).. and talksport's Danny Kelly said "EVEN THEY ARE FOR IT SO SURELY IT MUST HAPPEN"... when its views of the fans, the people who love the club, live and breath it 24/7, that should always take precedence over the views of any current or ex employee.

We all love Pepe, he has shown more affinity for us than many other foreigners, but hes just like any other employee who wants to better themselves and their career. There is no more iconic club in England than us, none have our history or success, but that matters little to an employee who seeks his next pay day/title.

Great post, couldn't agree more. We need to stop projecting our feelings onto players and start being more realistic.
There will never be a player, especially in the modern era, who loves the club as we do.

Hmmm.. not sure I'll agree to that, but I do agree its rare to find such player.

reina is one of our best players and most should bear in mind that replacing a keeper is a tough task that can set a whole team back.
a lot of talk of his mistake last night and i agree he should have saved it but if i was dalglish id be sitting johnson and kuyt down and show them the replay of the goal that they caused us.

doesnt matter if you have the best keeper in the world between the sticks if your own players hand away cheap possession 20 yds out to the likes of aguero then your asking for trouble.

sorry i just dont feel it from him anymore.
this season he has got away with hell of a lot of mistakes that could have cost us games and last night in (in my own view) he was at fault for two of the goals.
that put in out of the game even when we had been on top for most of it.

So you think our goal keeper isn't a major factor we have one of the best defences in the League? Strange don't you think?

Reina is only 2nd to Gerrard when it comes to Liverpool MVP in the past 5 years. And while it's true you are only good as your last game he deserves much more credit then he gets.

anybody want to talk about any of the outstanding saves reina has made this season? like for example the one he made just before their second goal last night.

i don't think he's currently playing as well as he can (but he's not alone in that) but i wouldn't swap him for any other keeper in the league just yet. mind you, the guy hardly gets any practice during games anyway - man city were the first to have a pop at him for ages.

No point in praising him for his outstanding saves if he can't save the easier ones. I still believe that he's one of our best players at the moment though.

Every time Reina makes a mistake you post in this thread about him not having it anymore, the guy is one of our best and most consistent players, yet you single him out for every little error, how was he at fault for 2 goals yesterday? the first one was his fault no doubt but could he do for the others? you also fail to mention the excellent save he made as well. Tell me this then he exactly would you replace him with as there are very few keepers in world football on his level?

being a keeper is the most thankless position on the pitch. every single player will make at least one misjudgement or mistake during every match, its just that the keeper's is far more visible and critical.

As predictable as ever, I see Lakes.  Reina out, Robert Green in.   :buttrock

not said that, i just dont he is happy here and it shows.
the mistakes he has made over the last two years have all to do with taking his eye off the ball. him and Carragher had a big bust up last season about the same thing and Carragher had to keep turning to him and say "keep your eye on the ball"
His mind is not always on the game

yes he is one of the best out there but it dont mean he dont need to be picked up on when he makes mistakes....and he is making more and more of them.

a kick up the butt might sort him out or a game on the bench. lets face it if it was anyother player that had cost us two goals we would have been shocked to see him on the bench for the next game.

If I was a dictator I would execute anyone that seriously think that Reina has been bad these last two year.
