I thoughts Gerrard look outstanding tonight, back to his best after just 80 mins of football after a 2 month injury.

He's still our best player and he's still the man to lead us to glory

I agree
Lets hope that others do what he did for Carroll tonight and then he can then add his name on the scoresheet. We won 3-1 and Carroll was part of that victory whether people like it or not.

they were quality crosses from stevie and a few more of them and carroll will start finding the net.
downing had a decent record with villa last season all from the left and his better games for us is when he's in front of enrique.his right foot is poor and he keeps running into dead ends   so is completely wasted there.
carroll doesnt help himself either and is often too slow too react to situations and positionally he needs to try to be better.but again i put that down to wandering looking for the ball because of the lack of quality service to him.
some below average performers out there tonight but overall the team played good enough to be value for the points.

Just like his old self. No sign of the aging, the injuries, the lack of action. Jut comes on and transforms a frankly pretty average looking midfield exemplified by a series of outstanding passes/crosses to Carroll, before effortlessly combining with Henderson to finish the game off from the tightest of angles with his 'weaker' foot. Moments to savour.

Gerrard was an inspiration tonight, as soon as he came on the game changed, he was so many levels above Adam, Henderson and Spearing in central midfield. He was putting in quality balls for Andy Carroll, drove the whole team forward and lead us to a comfortable victory when we were in a difficult position before he came on, welcome back Stevie!

He's gone way past eclipsing Kenneth. Steven has carried us for a decade, Kenneth was just one of a team filled with stars, who were reigning English and European champions when he signed.

No player in our history has ever reached the heights of what Gerrard did in winning the Champions League. An ordinary side blessed with one truly world class superstar. What Maradona did for Argentina in 1986, Gerrard did for Liverpool in 2005.

Scored in all four major Cup finals, winning all four.
Club's all time top European Cup goalscorer.
Over 100 goals, endless number of assists.
Captained the team for 9 years.
In PL team of the year 7 times.

Take out Gerrard over the last 10 years and we would be looking back on an awful decade. I will go as far as to say we would have been anonymous... an Aston Villa.. just lingering around 8th every season and winning f**k all.

Really? He changed the whole complexity and the pace of our game, you could see that the players around him grew in confidence when he came on. We looked more balanced. We played so much better when he came on and players like Henderson and Carroll looked decent

Thats my point. We have been leaderless since he was injured. Carra had a go but obviously doesnt have the same impact.
Gerrard didnt do anything different, radical or outstanding, except for making forward runs, simple passes and putting crosses in the danger area. Why cant any of the other players do this? It is a simple concept and with the wages theyre on you would expect other players to be able to do these obvious things. It is far more worrying to me that we have a group of players that cannot understand how football should be played. Gerrard is inspirational, no doubt, but he should also be the template for others to copy. Hopefully this is the turning point for us and his return will galvanise the players and make them believe they are capable of better things.

What we saw last night was Stevie of about 3 seasons ago. The 2008/09 season to be exact. The last year that we almost did it. When Stevie and Judas were on fire.
For quite a while now we've been waiting for us to turn the corner. When we beat Chelsea away(twice) you thought 'Thats it. We're on our way' only to fall flat on our noses in the next game at Anfield against some insipid side. Now with our talisman back to his old self we may have finally reached that point.
