Luis Suarez signs for Barcelona

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

lets be clear here:

the club statement: standing by their player, in the context of a 'word' he used with no derogatory racial conatations in his native speak and on his word, that this is the context he used it in

the judgement: served without reasons and evidence provided fuelling speculation and furore - not likely to be seen until mid-January

the players statement:  in the face of media headlines and the absence of a 'basis' - fuelling racist claims against Luis. Statement supports Luis' cultural based use of the word and that he is not a racist.

the T-shirts: supporting the individual and his being labelled. No regard to cultural basis of use of word being acknowledged.. the players and manager stand-by one of their own, who is being villified for use of a culutrally acceptable word, for him - 'he should know better'

GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS :

Alan Hansen: should he know better... ummm is he a racist? HOW LONG HAS ALAN BEEN HERE.. HE'S ON NATIONAL TV.. AND USES THE WORD 'COLOURED' LOL it is comical..HOW LONG HAS LUIS BEEN HERE ? AND HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER RE: A CULTURALLY ACCPETABLE WORD FOR HIM !!!

John Terry:  CRIMINAL CHARGES LOL..  and now a moral dilemma for the FA

Talk Sport
: ... criticise T-shirts and yet these sh@ts employ out-an-out sexists.. outed by a microphone airing sexist views held... apologised cos they got caught, otherwise they would not have -  Luis' use of the 'word' culturally motivated  yet the club is being slated for standing with him on that point!!!

WE ARE RIGHT... AND EVERYONE ON HERE NEEDS TO REMEMBER THAT LUIS' DEFENCE AND ADMISSION HAS BEEN MOTIVATED SOLELY BY HIS UNDERSTANDING OF THE 'WORD' IN HIS NATIVE LAND AND LANGUAGE. HE HAS MAINTAINED THIS POSITION ALWAYS AND SO IT IS HIS WORD AGAINST EVRA'S... IN THE CONTEXT OF HOW HE USED THE WORD AND HIS UNDERSTANDING OF IT - not derogatory not racist...

WE ARE RIGHT TO STAND BY OUR OWN !
THE BRENDAN REVOLUTION IS UPON US !

KING KENNY.. Always LEGEND !

The thing is if it had of been the other way round we know Evra ( the little squirming sh*t) would have just got a slap on the wrists. I remember the original posts on this forum immediately after the decision had been publicised and we were all feeling outrage through the injustice of it all. Now that we've had a moment or two to reflect then our original thoughts may have calmed down and we may have been willing to accept the punishment.
The fact is though, the club stands by him and this is the only way to fight back against these Fergie-sucking slugs. Solidarity is the key word and I expect to at least get the ban reduced to three games. Minimum

This whole thing stinks of sh'it and is detrimental to the cause of fighting racism rather than a benefit. Evra has previous of this and is now seen as someone who uses the race card when he cant get his own way. Very silly and damaging to the kick it out campaign
I actually think the FA and the media have worsened the issue rather than helping it.
Can you really be racist if you dont mean to be? If someone says something without intent are they as guilty as someone who says something they mean?
Where is the line drawn to what is said and how its meant? We all say things we dont mean or dont know the meaning of. What does that make us? It bothers me that people are so quick to see it as fact rather than interpretation
If Suarez had said what Terry has said I would have had no problem, as a Liverpool supporter, to say ban him for life. The FA in their haste to be seen to be tough on racism have come down like a ton of bricks on Suarez. It has backfired because he is not a racist and certain sections of the media have poured petrol on the fire with their handling of the situation. Racism will never be stopped by making stupid and needless decisions for publicity

If it had been other way around and Evra had got 8 weeks on say so of Suarez while my emotions on the matter would have been very different.

I still though would have thought it was a harsh ban from evidence provided

I rather not see the club doing what is doing at this present time. However the way it has been handled by the FA I fully support the fact that our club has to now fly the flag for our player

Yesterday the headline on back page of the Mirror was 'RACIST'. Today it is 'YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE'. Our Solidarity on this matter has led the general scum press into about-turning within 24 hours. As long as we stick by our guns there is no problem at all with getting this decision reversed. The thing is, if we can manage to do that then surely Evra has to be up for wasting the courts time? At the very least???

Prevaricate: To speak falsely or misleadingly deliberately or create an incorrect impression; lie. And also an anagram of Patrice Evra!

That was an outrageous and inflamatory headline

I nearly spat out my supper when Hansen said the word "coloured" and then he repeated it !

So a well respected BBC Football pundit who has been resident in the UK for 40 years can say the word coloured but Suarez is given a 8 match ban for using a word that's culturally acceptable in South America but "sounds like" a very offensive word.

You couldn't make it up !  :Oo:

Its beginning to get a bit like "Dont mention the war, I may have let slip once or twice"

Could be worse I guess you could a Dutch magazine editor trying to be cool

Really not sure whether this obessession about PC words help bringing people together or pulls them further apart

Hi laza,

Thats MY POINT mate  !

The FA have opened a can of worms with their determination to make an example of Suarez when the world and his wife knows its  a veiled message to Blatter after his recent comments and the fact that the FA are still extremely P***** off about not getting the World Cup and seem to believe that Blatter is to blame.

I haven't a problem with what Hansen said on MOTD although I'm culturally aware enough to  appreciate for some it might have raised an eyebrow.

Lets imagine the BBC get loads of complaints and Hansen is hauled before his bosees and he says "In Scotland, its perfectly acceptable to use the word coloured, is that an acceptable defence ? Or like Suarez will Hansen be sanctioned because he should have availed himself of the meaning of that word in the country he lives ?

Alan Hansen has apologised for his comments. Is it just me, or has this country become so sensitive to anything said, we are just a bunch of pussies?

Seeing as he is a pundit yeah he probably should have done his homework, but there is nothing malicious in how he put his comments. We have become so sensitive now its difficult to talk about black people without someone being offended.

Gingers on the other hand....
