Season 2011-2012 - Who should we fear?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

In my opinion NOBODY watched the charity shield and if them 2 are the best teams we have nothing to fear. Balotelli needs medical help

Well this is essentially a preseason game and neither of these clubs are anywhere near their best right now.

These are the 2 clubs we will probably fear the most.

I understand there is a lot of optimism around but let's not kid ourselves here. To go from where we finished last season to within the top 4 would be a miracle. Not saying it couldn't happen. But can you honestly say you feel we are that much better than Arsenal (most likely to drop out of top 4) that you think we can do it? I don't.

We will do better than last season but it's a lot tighter now so we need to go further with transfers if we want to get back into the Champions League.

And tbh I think if we defend anything like how we have done in pre season then we have a lot to worry about. Still though im sure Kenny will bring in someone before the window closes.

I'll tell you what dundreamin, you aint half fixated on next season and what we all have to think about it, thats like what? 8 threads with 'season 2011-2012' in the title. I got an idea, why not post in one of the other threads, that way it will be bumped back up to the top and we can observe some semblance of continuity and at the same time be able to better gauge the forums thoughts of the upcomming season.

I think we are not even close to Mancs or Manc city squad, we are closer to Arsenal's and I think we will be battling Arsenal for 4th place next season

You could tell that from one VERY poor game? Man utd are basically the same team, but without Scholes and probably Giggs. Berba dont wanna play, Rooney aint what he was. The new Defender Jones makes Carragher look fast...

Now Citeh... who is up front? Ballotelli? Tevez? They must be paying 2 mill a week in wages for a bunch of over hyped wannabes who are playing for money, not pride.

This is our season

Lets take out those rose tinted glasses for a minute mate,

Mancs are not the same team, they brought in quality in Ashley Young and Phil Jones. They have upcoming youngsters who will be good players like Tom Cleverly. Man City on the other hand have a strong team, and if they don't win the league or get close this season then question mark over Mancini on his failure to bring out the best out of a very very talented team.

Look Daws, if we win it this year, you won't see me complaining, I'll be running around the streets singing YNWA and fields of anfield road, but I can't see it happening this year

I actually think the mancs are worse than last season, but I think City will take the title.  I'd rather have Scholes any day over Young.  His experience was a very, very important part of the club.  I also hope Giggs will finally decline enough to keep him off the pitch this season.  Rooney is an idiot and you don't know what you will get from him, but I expect a much better season.  Chicharito I have a feeling will sit a lot this season because of his migrain problem.  Berbagay sucks and won't score 20 goals again.  Phil Jones was at the heart of manures defense when they lost 8-2 against Marseille.  He was playing CB when they conceded 8 goals.... 8. Not 3. 8.  He's not better than what they have and I'd have Smalling in the lineup over him any day of the week.  When ferdinand is hurt, and we know he will be, they have a really decent backup in Smalling, but Jones should be nowhere near their starting 11.  De Gea has been really shakey and is known for giving up some long-range goals, he clearly has either some anticipation problems or some depth problems.  They definitely got worse at keeper, because VDS was the best in the prem last season bar-none.

However, that doens't mean we'll finish ahead of them and I expect them to get 2nd behind City, who I think look very good this season.

I think it will be Arsenal and us for that 4th spot and it could be very close.  They seem to be falling apart this season, somewhat like we did last season, so hopefully that really hurts them.  Looks like they are going to be missing Van Persie, Gibbs and Vermalen for their first game of the season, and lets all hope they are missing them for the game against us as well.

The mancs looked good today, yeah I know that it was only the charity shield, but with the opposition being city it was competitive. They seem better than what i saw most of last season, where they were fortunate and nicked a lot of games without playing well. Today it seemed that they were trying a lot of quick interplay, one twos, like they were trying to copy Barca! Of our rivals they have improved their squad the most overall, although the keeper could be a weakness.

Unfortunatly, IMHO, they will be the ones to beat, city have aguero, who will do well, but they could implode with the likes of balotelli and with high profile players unhappy at sitting on the bench. Also they might be more interested in the CL, we should comfortably be better than Arsenal and chelsea have lost their aura.

A challenge has to be a must, the players we have, along with Kennys motivation, should be enough for all the other teams in the league, our squad only has deficiencies when compared man for man against city, manu and Chelsea.

Why should we fear Man U? they have only won the title almost every season for the last 15 odd years with old Whiskeynose in charge  ???

Is your head in-check or are you being sarcastic ?
