Lets just worry about battering Spurs first. Start taking the "one game at a time" mentality

The squad is not ready to be back in the CL just yet so I don't see the point of returning in such a hurry. Wait till the summer reinforcements arrive, get Gerrard back in the team & get a season to gel the team. Crouch did us a favor in the long run by scoring that own goal.

But im honest, id prefer to finish 6th with no Uefa Cup or in the top 4.

I dont see the point of the Uefa Cup. Playing on a Thursday with reserve team away in Russia then back each week playing catchup in the league playing every Sunday. Nobody cares about it until the semi finals and to win the thing you have to play NINETEEN games!!

Thats half a league season!

No thanks....

I'm in 110% agreement with you DD.

Honestly, we will have a bit of a new squad.  These Europa games preseason will be good to play our new first team.  They get a couple games together before anybody else and the can start to mesh before the first game of the season.  We go into the season ready to play, it really is an advantage.  After the season starts, we get to play our young talent and reserves in Europa.  With Stevie back, Lucas playing incredibly and the likely happening that we will be getting some wingers in, I have a feeling Spearing and Shelvey will have a hard time getting playing time.  Flanno and Robinson will be the same as Johnson and the new lb will be playing a lot.  If Carra continues to start and we get a new CB, Kelly may benefit from Europa league as well. Pacheco could also get some time.  This new Marvaux character or whatever his name is, I'm hoping, will not be a starter and so he could benefit as well.  Not to mention any play time the players like Kuyt or Maxi may not be getting, they could play as well.  There is loads of possibilities for the players that wan to prove themselves, and our first team gets a good rest.

We could play

Reina (He can always play- Gulasci or Jones if we need)
Flanno, Kelly, CB (even Skrtel?) Robinson
Maxi  Spearing  Meireles  Pacheco

Then we just have strikers to worry about, and we have had some strikers scoring like mad for the reserves, so they could finish the lineupe.  That would be a decent squad in Europe.  I don't think Meireles will be good enough next year if I'm honest.  As long as Gerrard stays fit and if Lucas keeps improving at the rate he has, he will be a :censored: player.  Especially if we buy Adam as well...

I just see it as a competition that the youth can try and prove themselves in.  We could start with the new first team and give them a little bit of time to mesh, then switch it over to the younger guys.

It would have been a miracle if we had finished 4th, thanks to Kenny we weren't that far away.
However, now that's not possible I am not sure I want us to finish 5th, there is a lot of games in the Europa and I would rather we concentrated on getting back in that top 4.

It is going to be hard enough without the Thursday night distractions, the likes of Chelsea and City are likely to strengthen their squads, like we will.

Obviously we want to win every game but I think being in the Europa could hamper our chances in the league.

I want us to finish 5th but only because I had a bet with a colleague of mine who supports Spurs that we would finish above them this season. I made the bet when Kenny took over.

Hopefully we can win on Sunday and that'll be our season over.  A run out for a bunch of kids against Villa on the final day.
