Im hooked after one episode Bob , like you I was down to just watching Fringe which has maintained a good well paced interesting story.
Homicide was a class show, Munch the start of the legend
I've also been reading the book on which the series is based (Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon, the guy who was involved in this series and who then went on to create The Wire) and it's a fascinating, gritty look at the inner workings of the Baltimore Homicide unit circa 1988. Of the many interesting insights he offers, I especially like Simon's ongoing critique of conventional police dramas on tv. As far as he's concerned, they are all hopelessly fantastical because they tend to solve all murders inside of an hour and usually do so with the kind of slam-dunk evidence real detectives usually only dream of: fingerprints, DNA, multiple eye witnesses, easily recovered murder weapons, fibres and other trace evidence etc. In reality, he claims, most homicide detectives put their cases down based on the flimsy testimony of maybe one or two reluctant witnesses, which they then use to squeeze a confession out of a suspect in "the box". In the end, most of these cases never go to trial (insufficient evidence, witnesses backing up on their story, plea bargains...) and those that do are considered by juries who watch too many cop dramas on tv and bring unreasonable expectations to the court about what kind of evidence is required to eliminate reasonable doubt. Bear in mind he's writing all of this way before the days of CSI and Criminal Minds. Just imagine what juries are like today!

Bad Bob wrote:Keep us posted on Game of Thrones, Laz. I couldn't decide if it looked good or cheesy (or both!). I'm down to watching only one new show these days: Fringe. I've not seen anything of Supernatural Season 6 and by all accounts am not missing anything. I'm also awaiting the DVD release of the latest Dexter to catch up (no spoilers!). Instead of contemporary telly we've been working our way through all of the seasons of Homicide: Life on the Street...for all intents and purposes, the precursor to The Wire. We're almost done season 6 of 7 now and it's been quality stuff.

Mate, Game of Thrones is a series ready to explode in any moment! the amount of tensions happening in each episode makes me expect that a war will happen in all the region between different families and factions![]()
It is fantastic till now, I really like this type of fantasy stuff.

Nobody says it's bad or even Ok, everyone says it's great so I guess it's a must-see. Don't know with which to start first though. Should it be "Gods of the arena" or "Blood and sand"?

Yes, building up very well is Game of Thrones. First series since Lost which has had me actively waiting for the next installment.

mate if your interested in blood and titties then its the series to see
. What I don't know is which one to download first. Blood and Sand came first but the events in Gods of the Arena are a prequel to the events of Blood and Sand. I'll be watching both anyway, so I guess I might start with Gods of the Arena as it is shorter and it's events might come like a warm up for Blood and Sand

copy (sorry Daws
) of the first half of Season Six and we've been pleasantly surprised. It's definitely not near the calibre it was back in say season 2 or 3 but it still makes for compelling viewing. We'll press our connect for the second half of the season and finish it off sharpish. Then we'll take a look at Game of Thrones...
