JOE COLE - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby RedSi35 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 9:25 pm

I just cannot figure out where there will be a position for him even if he does proove his fitness.

Carroll, suarez, lucas, kuyt, gerrard and meireles is surely going to be our midfield and attack. Where does he fit in there? He is not a left winger and he is not better than gerrard or lucas in the centre. The only option would be on the right, although i doubt kenny would swap kuyts workrate and passion for the odd bit of flair that cole may offer.

Squad player imo...........at 90k per week.

No doubt that Joe Cole is a talented player BUT I think the part of you statement "when fit" deserves more scrutiny and perhaps a re-evaluation of his worth.

Saw something today showing that during his time with BOTH Liverpool and Chelsea Joe has only completed a full 90 minutes in less than 20% of the games he's been involved in.

He's either come on as a sub (i.e not first choice), or when he has started been substituted due to injury, form or tactics.

Has the skills but I'd put him on the same bus as players like Harry Kewell.

the problem is he's very much a luxury player. everyone knows he has the talent but it can't be a coincidence that maureen, scolari, hiddink, mclaren and capello have never player him regularly.

the way we play doesn't suit him anyway. he's best off as one of the wide players in a front three and we don't play that system. if we play just one upfront when carroll is fit then he's best off the front man but is never going to realistically play there ahead of gerrard or mereiles.

Seems like the new Harry Kewell to me too.  A great signing who unfortunately probably won't be playing his best years at Liverpool.

Seems like a very honest good guy as well which makes it more sad.

Lets try give him a bit of time and support.  But i wouldn't leave him lying around the treatment room for too long.

Probably for some other thread/debate...but its very sad to see so many talented players not reaching their full potential or having careers cut short due to injury.  Perhaps the insane number of games these days takes its toll.

I say get rid in the summer before his value diminishes further, and we end up selling him for 2 million

best game he's had for us so far.

if he continues the effort and the movement, he's going to prove us all wrong.

yep. I've been critical but he was good tonight. Few more games and we might get the Cole of old in a Liverpool shirt  :)

A big improvement tonight. A bit more like the Cole of old. With match fitness we still may have a very valuable asset. Time will tell

he's a quality player who hasn't really had a chance to shine. Looked good today and should play every week in place of Maxi, imo.

He looked overweight and sluggish last week but that was a massive improvement tonight. He was bright and lively and I was gutted he couldn't take that chance at the end as it would have done him the world of good. Looked confident tonight. i reckon he'll play 2nd fiddle to Suarez but it's a squad game and we desperately need more options.
