5th place - The race for Europe is on

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

4th place will be very difficult now and if we finish 5th , I would say this is a fairy tale season and this season will go down as one of the most memorable seasons in the club's history due to events on and off the pitch. I've been a fan for 35 years and as far as I can remember the club has never fired a manager while the season was ongoing. The termination of Hodgson and replacing him with the King was the best possible appointment.

If we finish 5th, I'd love to see us topple Chelsea for 5th and Spurs in 4th so that our friend Nando will bitterly regret his move and continue with his sulking business at his 'big' club.

i think he meant that everything seemed to be going downhill under the previous owners, the court struggles and the previous manager but then NESV and Dalglish came along to revitalized the club and made us believe we're able to actually compete for the ECL spot when just a month ago or so, it was virtually impossible. even the loss of Torres isnt being felt as we've got Suarez, who in one match probably covered more ground than Torres did the entire season. so yes it does seem like a fairytale in a way.

and btw, you spelled Houllier wrongly.  :;):

what i'm gonna say is besides the point of the topic but... like him or hate him Torres had end-product mate... and that's the most important quality for any striker... Suarez may cover more ground than Torres but he need to translate his good link-up plays into goals and assists... because that's all that matters in the end...

not wanting to turn this into a traitor's tread, but we used to be a 2 man team..
now looking at it, we are at least a 4-5 man team counting Suraez, Carroll, Gerrard and Raul.

we look more balanced, no longer are we in a situation when traitor is injured and Ngog starts.

[quote]
You're right, what I meant was, at the end of this season when we compare with the state we were in at the start, it's like a whole new world altogether. Fairy tale not in terms of winning trophies but in terms of overcoming several crises involving the club.

So even if we don't win the Europa trophy this season, considering how much we've moved up the table (we were in relegation zone and the threat of relegation was real at one time), the high court battles with those 2 conmen and we won, our millions in debt cleared, (we were threatened with bankruptcy at one time) the betrayal by Torres and replacing him with Suarez and Carroll. And with incompetent players leaving in the summer and replaced by more world class signings, the future looks good.

As far as I can remember, the club had never undergone such high level challenges before all in one season. This season I feel IMHO is a season has to go down in our club's history as one of the most memorable season.

I think fourth is out of the question at the moment because spurs are playing well enough to keep going.  If chelski keep starting torres then I could actually see us passing them up for fifth by a point or two, but I think ancelotti is smarter then that :(

Why do so many people say that manure have it in the bag? They are only 4 points up...  They still have chelski twice, arsenal away and us away.  We will beat them while they're home, and if arsenal win that week it's 1 point.  Arsenal will beat them while they're home as well and arsenal are top... manure will probably lose points away to chelski and if they lost some home, sweet.  Just those four fixtures I see manure picking up only 2 or 4 points.  I think Arsenal will win the league for sure.  I know they will drop some more points too, but manure blow away from home so they are destined to drop more points anyway.

Yeah, Arsenal's final 12 matches are easier than united but they have a lot of other competitions that they're still in and aren't as deep as them.  On top of that they're Arsenal, I'd love it if they finally got over that hump and won the league, especially seeing as how they'd stop them from gettin number 19 for at least 1 more year.. but it's not something I would bet on.

It's gonna be great when we actually have a good second striker on the bench, for those times where one needs a rest or we decide to set up with just one of them playing.  They both play very different styles so we can either play them together or go for specific tactics to suit one or the other and if it doesn't work out we can swap them out and completely change how we play.  I can't wait for these guys to finally be healthy/playing in the league.

tottenham arent really prolific enough to win all of their remaining games, with about 11 games left to play, what is that... 33 points?

8 points behind spurs, but if we went on a bit of a run, won 7 or 8 out of the eleven and drew a couple we could get 25-30 points.

not out of the question with everyone fit.

saying Man Utd are going to win the 19th crown and topple us is a bit premature for two reasons:

1: they are only 4 points clear of the Gunners, and they have to go to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, then Anfield in the league next week. theres potentially 6 points dropped.

2. They have had good results to date, but their squad is not good enough to sustain it, with the likes of carrick, fletcher, nani i would rate as "average" not great, and Scholes and giggs, playing on plastic knees and hips these days, i predict a blip in form. They have been so lucky, ie V blackpool away, and i think their luck will run out with 12 still to play.

It's all if's, but's and maybe's really isn't it.

I think top 4 is outwith our reach but it is not outwith the realms of possibility if we win the majority of our games.

What we can guarantee is having a key role to play in who eventually wins the league as we have the majority of the teams above us still to play.
