5th place - The race for Europe is on

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Would have to win every game and even then it's unlikely can't see Chelsea dropping to below 72 points. It was asking a lot even with a win yesterday. If Chelsea lose tomorrow and Spurs slip up again it might still be on but 5th is the best we can hope for this season I think.

It's a massive ask, it always was in truth. I'm hopeful of finishing above one of them, but I think hoping for both to slip is asking too much

i dont know which i would rather see

a) Chelsea beating Manure to stop them from winning their 19th
OR
b) Chelsea losing both games and us having a higher chance of getting 4th spot.

seeing that Spurs is also involved in the 4th place race, i would be inclined to go for option (a). this season IMO, clinching 4th spot is not that important but regaining pride is especially after the disastrous first half of the season. if the season begun when Kenny took over, we could very well be in the top2. so the players should just play for pride and to make sure this season isnt as bad as it could've been if Kenny didnt come in. next season however, with the addition of a few new players, we should not be fighting for 4th place anymore if you feel ma flow :;):

Our chances of 4th are even slimmer now as we have a massive mountain to climb if we are to get top 4 now. Before yesterday I was quietly confident however when I look at the league now and look at the gap between us and Spuds I can't honestly see it!!

However...we have still got to play almost all of the teams above us and with them al having Champs League to think about maybe, just maybe, if we were to go on an amazing run we could make that top 4.

If we don't make the top 4 we will certainly have a huge say in who does get in the top 4 and potentially who wins the league. IMO it's between Man U and Arsenal now and I know who I would prefer ???

I think its inevitable that those tw@ts will win their 19th title this season. To be honest Im not as upset as I thought Id be because I see a bright future now with the new owners and KK in charge. We can easily finish in the top 6, probably top 5 and possibly top 4 if we keep believing.
This will be the last time the skanks win the league for a long time, if ever, so let them celebrate.
We will win it next year

4th place will be hard to land after the Wigan draw. Because it's still mathematically possible, Lpool have to do their part in winning as many games as possible and see where we are in May.

KK is not God and will need time to re-build another championship team again. IMHO, it will be at least another 1 more season before we can aim to be champions again. My only concern is whether KK will be offered the job on a permanent basis and whether he still has what it takes in today's game.

The club needs to go on a spending spree for quality midfield and wing players in the summer and most likely a new goalie as well.

Looking at the table now, Man U it in the bag already. The competition right now is not good enough to do anything about.

I'm not so sure, I still think Arsenal can sneak it as long as they don't keep fecking things up. I can see us nicking 5th spot from the chavs though but I'm not sure we can catch Spurs.

I think our biggest achievement of this season will be to knock the chavs from 5th and (hopefully) win the Europa cup.  The last laugh, so to speak

yep, I'd take 5th place this season. If you'd of looked at us in say November 2010 you'd of laughed your c@ck off if anyone would of said 'lets try get 5th place' but the reality is that 5th is a strong possibility. Chelsea are about to lose their manager which could go 1 of 2 ways. Either they'll collapse for the rest of the season or they'll find a new lease of life and crack on.

Some saying Rafa is waiting in the wings to take over. I'm not sure. Why was Mouriniho at Fulham game last night then? possible to make a return?

even if we don't make it, the pill would be sweetened somewhat if chelsea miss out on the top 4 aswell. i would quite literally be laughing my a$$ off for weeks.

We won't make it this season thanks to the ownership saga and appointing Roy as manager.

But thankfully we seem to be putting the foundations in place so we can have a real go next season.  New owners that seem to be willing to spend, no major debt, Kenny in charge, Steve Clarke as coach, 2 potentially very good strikers and a handful of talented youngsters.

After all the troubles this year, lets just be happy that we've got some respect back.  For awhile i was genuinely worried about relegation or an extremely low finish.
