5th place - The race for Europe is on

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Did the BBC predictor thingy and this is how the table turned out for me.

Cant see us goin unbeaten. I was being as realistic as possible doin it. But hey, If we finished 6th, Its a good turnaround in my book. I really was begining to loose faith under hodgson, and thought we could have gone down at one stage.

The Mancs win it on goal difference. How sick would that be :(

4th ?

While we've been playing well and picking up points, i think 4th is still quite some distance and we should be taking it one game at a time for now trying to restore stability and confidence... I dont think anyone within the club would want to put that much pressure on the players at this stage with them finally regaining some sort of rhythm..

Imo, the only way we could get fourth spot is if we go for a very attacking setup and score big goals especially in our home games.. We'll most definitely come up against opposition who will sit back and try to frusrate us and other opposition who nick silly goals and the only way we could overcome such conditions is having forwards who are used to scoring.. At the moment we dont seem to be playing any sort of formation that allows our forwards to get into good scoring opportunities.. We're playing a largely defensive formation that contains the opposition and looks to spring forward on the counter... Can see us dropping points against smaller sides unless Suarez or Carroll come in and hit the ground running in goalscoring terms...

That's pretty much on the money mate. Kenny has tightened things up, got us playing more positively and instilled some belief in the side. On top of which we've just signed to very exciting attacking players so all in all it's an excellent base to get us playing some more expansive stuff in the coming weeks. 4th place is probably a bit of a reach BUT the fact we're even talking about seems incredible considering a few people even mentioned the word relegation not so long ago.

its out of our hands. I already said the main thing is that the optimism is there, who would have thought 4 weeks ago we'd be discussing the possibility of achieving fourth? I think that's testament to Kenny's efforts alone. Right now we need to concentrate on ourselves and take it one game at a time, its a tall order asking for Spurs AND Chelsea to drop so many points tho

Stevie Heighway on the wing

An exception to the usual European qualification system happened in 2005, after Liverpool won the Champions League the year before, but did not finish in a Champions League qualification place in the Premier League that season. UEFA gave special dispensation for Liverpool to enter the Champions League, giving England five qualifiers.[25] UEFA subsequently ruled that the defending champions qualify for the competition the following year regardless of their domestic league placing. However, for those leagues with four entrants in the Champions League, this means that if the Champions League winner falls outside of its domestic league's top four, it will qualify at the expense of the fourth-placed team in the league. No association can have more than four entrants in the Champions League.[26]

dont matter can't see anyone beating barca for it atm.

:wwww  you use wiki and I find the official rules!  :D

apologies greavsie i didnt see your post.
my bad.
wasnt sure what the rule was after 2005 but it is only right that whoever wins it gets the right to defend it.
lets hope cheatski get someone decent in the quarters and get walloped :buttrock

we have even a worse record at the bridge.. the last player to score there is Bruno Cheyro. but we did it, Kenny really inject a new belief in the team, imagine if the board isnt so short sighted and appoint Kenny before the start of the season...

4th place is on!
i see a potential conflict coming up with Abra and Ancelotti, abra wants torres to be in the starting but torres couldnt play in a 3 man attack with drobga and anelka, its too narrow.
hopefully this will cause friction within the team.

Wasn't the last person to score at the Bridge Xabi Alonso back in 2008? Or Kuyt in the CL QF in 2009?

in the league, mate.

We did the double over chelsea 2008-2009 xabi scored at their place

i reckon we'll do it, they're there for the taking, both teams are inconsistent this season and we've only looked better and better since kenny took charge, they could lose to almost anyone in the run in, i think we'll almost go unbeaten

incedently, has anyone got pictures of the banners about torres from yesterdays game? havent seen any yet and they've been mentioned a fair bit in the papers today

Happy to know many believe it's possible, I am also of the opinion to concentrate one game at a time. Most important thing now is to continue to start winning as many games as possible. If KK is still in charge next season, us kops have every reason to be optimistic and happy about. This is something we've not experienced in years.

Nowadays in premier league and esp. this season, no games seem to be easy. Look at Wolves vs Man u. So pool cannot take Wigan or any side lightly.

I would say highly imporbable to impossible. Spurs and Chelsea still offer a better deeper more talented squad. With all our recent wins we are still yet to demonstrate a totally powerfull controled match. We ares winning by a margin and by carefull tactics ,i would still like to see a dominant performance.

Chelsea and Spurs have been playing badly for a while. Chelsea fleet from a good performance to a bad one on a weekly basis. Spurs have been riding their luck for that last month or so. Their game at Bolton had a draw written all over it until the last minute of stoppage time.

Both look vulnerable and both will have increased focus on the CL coming soon.

Doing the double over Chelsea will have a bittersweet taste if that happens

I personally would take a CL spot if it meant that Man Utd beat Chelsea twice and went on to win the league.

Why not?

Keep the faith...... With Kenny at the helm, 4th is more than just a possibility IMO.
