The facts are that he's a decent right back who is very good coming forward.  But we massively overpaid for him and he's not international class, England just don't have great options there at present.

He co.cked up tonight for their goal mind, but he's bound to be rusty after a lengthy lay off.

Disagree
He plays out of his skin for england. Looks awesome.
Maybe he should wear an england shirt underneath his top...?

Maybe we should have better players around him that don't expose him so often?

Youre kidding, right?

No, I think our CBs for the most part are average at best.

And that stops him attacking, defending, and basically doing the job hes supposed to?

Don't know about that mate, I know plenty of England fans who disagree with that statement.

He's not a bad player, he's just not a top player either.

Think a lot of the blame for the goal can also be laid at carras feet- going for a header where he wasn't needed and leaving a massive gap for lavezzi to stroll through

Whether or not he was worth the 18 million quid Rafa spent on him is a moot point, but there is no question that he is a much better player than he is currently showing. We need him/the manager/whoever the feck else has anything to do with it to get it sorted out sharpish. At his best he is one of our better players, right now I'd pick Carragher over him at right back.

I personally felt the goal was Poulsens fault.

At least the rest of the defence moved up with Carra though, Johnson fell asleep.  Carra wasn't at fault for going and trying to win the ball, no way.

The rest didn't thou - there was a massive hole and both spearing and poulsen were right there . There was no need for him to go for the header

It isn't either of them, at the end of it all it's simply on Poulson and no one else.  He had a free header that should have easily been handled and he hit it straight to the opposition in a dangerous position, everything else that occurred after was because of that mistake.  You can say Johnson coulda done this or that, Carra coulda done this or that but, for me, it's Poulson that has to shoulder the blame on that one.

i was about to say I thought Johnson was cr@p but I see the Poulsen thread is next so, reckon Johnson was certainly better than Poulsen but way, way off form. Seems to take more pride in his hair than his game.

i have seen many people on here considering johnson would do a good job as a right winger. i totally disagree with that. as right back, i agree that his best skills are the offensive ones. but if he played in the midfielder, he would lose the surprise, that is the best way than a right/left back can come to the attack...he would not have the chance to leave his winger behind after run 50 metres...he would have always facing the left back of the other team. using offensive player like him in the midfield is a mistake to me. unless they are good associating with another players and so, but i repeat, better skills of johson appear coming from behind, or when the winger moves to the centre taking the left back with him and he runs to the space...

He was woeful last night.

He is clearly a confidence player and once it goes his whole game goes to pot.
Passing, first touch, the basics all terrible.

Lets hope he improves soon as at this moment in time he shouldnt be near the first team playing like that.

we're as weak in the full back positions as i can ever remember. the thought of ashley cole and malouda taking on johnson or carragher down that flank genuinely petrifies me.
