Hodgson's team selection on Thursday, the first half performance and his decision to get rid of Aquilani for a year has for me brought back my doubts about his long term suitability for the job. Defeat on monday and the honeymoon will be over for him from what I can see.

So a defeat against a team that have spent £400m is the be all and end all to you 2 games into the season, and 2 decisons make you think this?. :laugh:

Hodgson chose a team that was massively weakened in midweek, players out of position, a few players 2 games into their Liverpool careers, yet we still won whilst it wasn't convincing we won.

It won't be the end of the world if we drop points @ManCity But I think they're there for the taking. I hope Roy puts out a side that can pressure high up the pitch - We've haven't seen a(full) side w/ Stevie and Nando together yet this season. Keep your hat on folks, I'm remaining optimistic until proven otherwise. And one misstep away isn't going to do that.

Looks like Masch is staying now.

"I spoke to Massimo Moratti about the fact they are not going to buy Liverpool players,” Hodgson told reporters.

"I believe they were only interested in two of our players and they are not going to buy them. Moratti said they are not going to do that."

I think many people have ignored the fact that Roy has now managed to keep hold of Torres, Gerrard AND Masch...a few months ago many thought all three were off. That's a massive achievement in my view.

I didn't actually state that the team would do badly this season just that my initial doubts had crept back in over the last couple of days. So very very sorry for daring to have an opinion on here.

Well done Roy, but it will be down to his man management skills to keep Mash from sulking like he did at West Ham. I hope his head and heart are in LFC for another season. That would be a huge boost. He looked top notch against arsnl but with the transfer window closing, will he play with the same energy/intensity?

Good to see Masch is staying

However excellent he might be at tackling though, he is still very uneffective at breaking down teams like stoke or blackburn. For that reason I would play Poulson in games were we are against park the bus teams because he can make decent forward passes and still offer stability for the back four.

Masch is most effective in the big games were we need to put opposition midfield under pressure.

Talk about positive spin on things. Only hearsay suggested Torres, Masch and Gerrard would leave cause of Rafa, no facts whatsoever.

Instead Roy has failed to sell an unhappy player that he already got a replacement for and will not get any money to reinvest in the team now. Masch will command maybe 10 million next summer. Instead he gets rid of a creative player with a lot of offensive upside on loan leaving us with a bunch of dm with very little creativity and Kuyt on one wing. 6th, here we come

F.ucking hell the overeaction on here concerning the loan of Aqua and buying Poulsen and not selling Mascha is unfeckinbelievable it really is.

Firstly, lets take a look at the Aqua situation. Rafa left Roy a flop, neither it seems, think or thought Aqua was up to the task. Personally I think the lad has ability but lacks the physical demands of the Prem. They're my thoughts, Roy's might be totally different. He's brought in J.Cole and again it seems he wants to play him in the hole. Where is Aqua going to fit in, realistically? The Poulsen signing comes in here now and so does retaining Masha's services.

Mascha and Poulsen could be the axis of our central midfield and Gerrard can shift into the hole, where does Aqua fit in realistically? He doesn't, signing Poulsen gives Roy more options than the narrow minded on here think. Put it this way I wouldn't be surprised with Cole's suspension that Gerrard is moved into Cole's role and Poulsen and Mascha are paired up in the center against Citeh.

Moaning though doesn't stop there for some does it, no, we've bought Poulsen and failed to sell Mascha :laugh:

Feck it, maybe Roy should have done a 'Rafa' sold the player first and then scramble around in the market and panic buy like he did with Pennant or Aqua - both really worked out didn't they. Roy sensibly went for a safe bet, with the money he had, from the sale of Yossi or whatever, he went out and brought an experienced international midfielder for peanuts. That's better business in my view, you don't sell stars first, if you've then got to dilly dally around in the transfer market panicking.

So what? We've kept hold of Mascha-is it really that bad? fu.ck no! Firstly, if Inter do not meet our evaluation on the player then tough fecking s.hit. You lot should be happy Roy isn't being made to sell a quality international for peanuts! Therefore it's hardly ROy's fault Inter can't afford the fee we've quoted, TOUGH. Many have said he's a mercinary- but he's a proffesional mercinary and I and many others like him, he's a fecking quality player and if he produces performances like he did against Arsenal while wanting away, I don't give a feck. Like I said this gives Roy the option of playing him and Poulsen in midfield with Gerrard in the hole, where does Aqua fit in? When Cole is back he'll slot back in and midfield can be adjusted if need be.

Joking, its a good post mate I do agree with some of it, but I don't think Aquaman has been given a real chance like, he never played 3 or 4 games in a row to show his true ability. Personally I would have kept him, especially when we don't have a big squad, remember our old manager saying ''options'' and ''possibilities''

But anyways this is a Roy Hodgson thread, lets hope he kicks some @ss this monday! :buttrock

Roys # 1 task = keep Gerrard and Torres - DONE
Roys # 2 task = bring in some quality/experience to the squad - DONE (Jova, Cole, Poulson)
Roys # 3 task = recreate team spirit - DONE (evident last weekend)
Roys # 4 task = get rid of zonal marking - DONE

Everything to date has been positive so any proper LFC fan on here doubting Roy needs there head read. If he manages to keep a hold of Mascherano (either by luck, time running out in the window or by him convincing Mascha) then the guy has over achieved already IMO.

I think we have an interesting last few days in the transfer window ahead and I trust that Roy will do a good job in bringing in some defensive cover (LB) and another striker.

Think back 2 months to (when Torres, Gerrard, Macherano etc were all going and it was all doom and gloom) and then take a look at what we have now and then you will realise that this man has done a great job to date

FFS people, don't get carried away by our defensive set up in first two games. Roy is just trying to bring some stability while the players are nearing full fitness and trying to gel. Pepe, Carra, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Masch, Gerrad, Kuyt, Jova, Torres, Babel all of them were at the world cup had extended holidays. Why are people jumping to conclusion so soon and bashing the manager ? Sure his decisions may or may not turn out to be right but we'll see. Let's wait till Christmas at least then we can all bash him together if he doesn't produce the results.

And regarding Aquaman's loan, well every manager has their preferences. If he doesn't see anything in Aquaman then so be it. I'm sure he'll bring a player or two to replace him before 31st August. He ain't no fool.
