He does it for me mate, I'm very pleased with him.

I just can't get my head around how anybody wouldn't think this is good news Lee. If they don't like Riera, well we've just bought a bloke who can play very well on the left. If they believe in S@ints mythical second striker, well we've just bought a bloke who is excellent at dropping into the hole and making things happen. If they don't like Aquilani, we've just bought a bloke who has played a fair bit of his career in central midfield.

If they don't like players who haven't got Premiership experience, there's no worries here. If they won't have any more potential and they want proven performers, tick that one off as well.

But we're all supposed to be depressed because the fella might get injured . He might get injured of course, but we paid 20 million quid last season for a bloke who was ALREADY injured and we were all supposed to get excited about that one, or we were a disgrace .

If his injuries don't give you a nervous twitch, then you can worry about the wages. Fancy Cole not agreeing to play for free. Anyway he gets 90 grand a week apparently which is an obscene amount of money, but kind of the going rate. All in all by all accounts he will end up getting paid 19 million quid over the course of his contract (don't ask me ask Benny, it's his figure). Well by my reckoning Benayoun will have been on a minimum of 60K per week, and he had what was it three years of his contact to run. That means we had 9 mill to pay him, plus we got 6 mill for him which means Cole will cost 4 mill for however long he's here. Not excited yet? Ah well.

great post mate but i'd just like to point out that we've not bought him at all he's FREE.

So doesn't that make this signing even better seeing as we sold josi to them for 5 and then taken a player from them for free who is in my opinion is a player that can bring alot more to the team

I'm starting to get some excitment back for this season

He had a major injury recently and took a while to get back to shape. That for me doesn't qualify him as injury-prone.

82 games in prem in 4 seasons with 48 being starts .

more than aquilani managed  :p

over 250 appearances in 7 seasons

I think he's only had two major injuries hasn't he? its a bit overstated IMO

It's the last one that was the worry Greavsie - serious knee injury and since then he has looked a shadow of his former self - hopefully he can get the form he showed during his early seasons with Chelsea up until his injury .

agreed mate, the last one was the worst but that doesnt make him injury prone. Just hope he can kick on from that injury and do the job for us.

We actually have some depth in attacking midfield in our squad. Unbelievable Jeff  :D

I really hope he can get that form back and prove to be a great player for us - at the moment he still needs to pass a medical and I hope it's the hardest one he has ever had to do - then goes on to star for us but until he does then there is still a doubt over his signing IMO . Just to pleas Mick - my opinion has feck all to with previous manager and it doesn't suddenly turn our current manager into a hero

I wasn't convinced by Roy either, I'm still not to be honest but credit where it's due this is a great coup from the man

Whoever it is though, 6 mill for Benayoun then Cole on a free is absolutely fantastic business by any standards.

Didn't you say just recently that the tracking of Joe cole was probably initiated by the PREVIOUS manager or something along that line? And that the PREVIOUS manager must have been heavily involved in the Benayoun deal as well?

Then surely credit must also go to the PREVIOUS manager and why change your tune now?  ???

Great sigining with alot of quality but with Cole, Aquilani, Torres & Agger I think the medical staff will need to stock up on the windowlene we have so many players made of glass. I hope this new medical team can live up to their reputation and maybe, just maybe we can be back with a bang in the upcoming season. If nothing else signing Joe Cole can get us genuinely excited about it which is something alot of us probably couldn't really have said this time last week.

In other news, why do we have no left backs?

I'm not changing my tune at Magus, what a strange comment ??? Unlike some on here, I'm more than prepared to pay credit where it is due. Now undoubtedly the previous manager will have been interested in Cole, four of the other five teams in the top seven (except of course Cheslea as they were selling him) were interested in Joe Cole and tried to get him. He's obviously a good player, an England international on a free, and I've no doubt our previous manager was well aware of the fact, fair play to him. Being interested in him and signing him however are different things, ask Harry Redknapp and Arsene Wenger if you don't believe me.

Now as I said in my post which you refer to, Cole has been widely quoted as saying he wanted a manager who "loved him", who would "talk to him', would "trust him" and "believe in him". None of us know of course if the previous manager would have been able to entice Cole to turn down the two London clubs, but Roy did and for that he deserves credit.

I'm more than happy though to give credit to whoever deserves it.
