Chelsea refused his wages demands for a reason and both man utd and arsenal both stated they wouldn't be signing him - reasons unknown but I can guess at two - his wage demands and his injury record . If anyone watched Cole last season after coming back from his injury you would of seen someone who was a shadow of his former self hence why he was on he bench most of the time . If cole can recapture that form they that will be fantastic - if he can't then we would of been throwing more money away . I fear another Kewell situation with regards Cole .

Oh it seems that money got for yossi and insua will helpmpqy for cole

But when he did play he was good for them and ultimately influential in them winning the title. As long as he stays fit we should have a decent player on our hands.

I hate to say it but some comments on here sometimes confirm for me that some posters were more supporters of Rafa Benitez Football Club than they were Liverpool Football Club. How can we sell Benayoun for 6 million quid and get Joe Cole on a free, and it not be a good deal? Seriously, time to move on and let it go guys you're in severe danger of making yourselves look silly.

Sales are conducted with the minimum of fuss, with top dollar being recieved for any players going out of the door. Purchases are once again going ahead without the horses being disturbed. He straight bats press questions on how quickly deals are likely to happen with the old "I don't do the negotiating, Christian Purslow does" and simply gets on with things. The mediacal science team tell him he can't use World Cup players in the Europa Cup, so he says "OK then we'll use youngsters". "If we go out so be it, the league is our priority" he says. he doesn't bring coachloads of backroom staff with him, hangers on and yes men accrued over many years, coach drivers and kit men, nutritionists, scouts, acupuncturists and the rest of the nonsense some modern managers swear by. He comes in and says he wants all our backroom stalwarts to stay. He isn't threatened by Kenny still being around even though he knows Dalglish wanted his job, he isn't threatened by Sammy Lee staying, even though he was very close to the previous manager. Not only isn't he threatened, he WANTS them to stay.

How can anyone not be impressed by the way he's going about his business.

Not trying to put a damper on this as I am made up he has signed but to be honest I think whenever a new manager comes the first batch of signings are always done and dusted in a fairly quick fashion.

I also don't take this view that he's "injury prone".

He had a major injury recently and took a while to get back to shape. That for me doesn't qualify him as injury-prone.

To be honest I think it's now quite likely Aquilani will be moved on if we can get a decent price for the lad.

seen you mention this a couple of times scott. why do you think so? i'd be hugely surprised myself...

I guess it all depends on Hodgson's assessment of the squad dude. If he's not happy with certain areas of the squad he's gonna have to sell to buy i'd guess. Cole's arrival is a threat to Aquilani's position because he can play through the middle, he can play off the striker, he likes to play between the lines. It depends on how the manager is planning to utilise Cole but if it's through the middle (and Cole indicated that was where he wanted to play + perhaps that had a bearing on him joining LFC, could be Benny?) then Alberto may find himself expendable. Cole also has the advantage of having proved himself in the Premier League + he is capable of playing on either flank. Also, if we're planning a lot 4-4-2 this season I just can't see Aquilani getting the nod as one of a midfield two.

There is a thread on this forum about people being sick of forum etc and people have stated that you can't say anything without being insulted or abuse( namely Mick was making the accusations) yet here in the space of a couple of posts i been accused of being a bitter and then aces abuse .

I apologise for showing a little bit of concern over the signing . Have stated if he recovers his form then it's a fantastic signing but as yet he still hasn't passed a medical yet and while it's a small step forward it's certainly nothing to get massively over excited about - the J Cole I saw last season isn't the Cole from 3 seasons ago and IMO is on the same level as Yossi so we have gained nothing at the moment IMO . Now it would be nice to have that opinion without any insults or abuse like is currently being dished out around the boards

this is one of your ''I know its early but" moments Mick.

we haven't started the season yet, so we can't judge as of now. However, I do think Roy is doing a good job right now. Lets see how it goes on the pitch.

Now the Joe Cole signing is brilliant :buttrock

Great first signing, let's hope he backs it up with a similar quality of players as we have squad fillers and younger players coming through so hopefully we can fill out the starting line-up a bit!

Great signing, have hoped he's join us for a long time!

Joe Cole has made 28 Premier League starts in his last 2 seasons combined, the same amount that he made in 2007/08 alone.

I just can't get my head around how anybody wouldn't think this is good news Lee. If they don't like Riera, well we've just bought a bloke who can play very well on the left. If they believe in S@ints mythical second striker, well we've just bought a bloke who is excellent at dropping into the hole and making things happen. If they don't like Aquilani, we've just bought a bloke who has played a fair bit of his career in central midfield.

If they don't like players who haven't got Premiership experience, there's no worries here. If they won't have any more potential and they want proven performers, tick that one off as well.

But we're all supposed to be depressed because the fella might get injured . He might get injured of course, but we paid 20 million quid last season for a bloke who was ALREADY injured and we were all supposed to get excited about that one, or we were a disgrace .

If his injuries don't give you a nervous twitch, then you can worry about the wages. Fancy Cole not agreeing to play for free. Anyway he gets 90 grand a week apparently which is an obscene amount of money, but kind of the going rate. All in all by all accounts he will end up getting paid 19 million quid over the course of his contract (don't ask me ask Benny, it's his figure). Well by my reckoning Benayoun will have been on a minimum of 60K per week, and he had what was it three years of his contact to run. That means we had 9 mill to pay him, plus we got 6 mill for him which means Cole will cost 4 mill for however long he's here. Not excited yet? Ah well.

Here here!

Mick, its funny how some put such a spin on deals to make everything negative at the club. Cole gets 90k a week, what was yossi on? For me, I dont care. We have brought in a guy, who is english, younger, technically better and also knows what the prem is about.

I also am like you in liking how roy is conducting himself. None of the "i'm coaching the team pish"

A lot like the Liverpool of old.

Im chuffed with this signing. Masch will leave, but thats going to give roy seroius cash to fill one or two problem areas. Mahmoud Diarra from Real, cissoko from Lyon, and hopefully Cahill from Bolton.

Refreshing being able to post about football again :p
