In other news, why do we have no left backs?

That has to be the main worry for us going in to the new season unless he's thinking of playing agger there!


Not sure who we could bring in to fill that gap - not really got a player that jumps to my mind that we could afford

Figeroa seems the most likely given the press rumours I'd guess. Wayne Bridge could be another possibility given that City are in the process of splashing £17 million on another left back.

i've never been to sure about bridge, i must admit not really seen to much of him (not sure why)

but what comes straight to my mind is can we afford t have him and johnson as our full backs?

I'm not overly impressed with him as well - he seemed solid enough at Wigan but nothing that stood out or made him stand above his peers - I know a lot of hype started about him since he scored from halfway line

Yeah I saw that goal... and a couple of headers I believe...

for positions like fullbacks (even CM's read Alonso), I prefer a player who can make the team better on a consistent basis, defend well, distribute well, overlap well and cross well... I'm not really sold by those kinda wonder goals to be honest...

I am made up Joe Cole has signed for us . I didn't dare believe it could happen , but it looks like it has.
He will want to show Chelsea just what they are missing , which can only be good for us.
Plus he's won a couple of Premiership titles , so perhaps he can inspire our lads to achieve the same ! 

Keep everything crossed that he passes his medical!!

i'm guessing that hodgson will keep him knowing that he has a 20 million rated player on his hands that is freshly fit and ready and has shown in fits and starts what he's capable of. seeing as we are so light down the left now (as we always have been, it feels like) i wouldn't be surprised to see cole playing out there a fair bit, despite the presence of jovanovic. if he doesn't then he's a good option as 'second striker' or the more forward of a midfield two. he's more verstaile than aquilani but i don't think he replaces him, in fact they could easily play together in my view.

having both aquilani and cole in the squad gives us a lot of strength, creativity and options in the advanced midfield department. i like it.

I'd like us to keep Aquilani myself dude, i'm not sold on the player but there's no doubt he is talented player. I think it would/will all depend on the strength of the market out there for him. If Hodgson wants to strengthen other areas and the only way he could do that is by selling a couple of players then I'd imagine a bid in excess of£12 million might tempt him. I guess we'll find out pretty soon.

PS. Good shout on the left of midfield, we're actually looking quite crowded out there all of a sudden with Riera, Babel, Jovanovic and now Cole. Maybe it's Babel's position that is most under threat?

you put gerrard and lucas centre midfield joe cole on the left and aquilani in the hole. Hes the type of player that aqua will enjoy playing with.

really hope its figeroa out of those two. in my opinion wayne bridge was the only left back weaker than insua out of the top seven teams last season.

Unless we are buying Lahm, Ash cole, or even Evra people will moan. (this has been proven by the negativity towards Joe Cole)

Figeroua is a solid Proven premiership player, and much better than Insua (but not Aurelio imo) and would be a solid player.

Look at Evra 134 games for Scum and 1 goal, solid yes, as is Figeroua.
