Such a figure gives RM the chance to back down gracefully without the fans getting upset.

Liverpool Ready to Accept £60m Real Madrid Bid for Steven Gerrard and Insua and Lucas Head for Anfield Exit

July 12th, 2010

Anfield side apparently put price on skipper’s head, will the Spanish giants go ahead and make large offer?

Real Madrid’s transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti claims they have been told Steven Gerrard would cost them £60m to buy from Liverpool.

The good news is that Real president Florentino Perez has been put off by that asking price, especially given the England captain’s age.

“The president does not agree with Gerrard because he is 30 and Perez doesn’t want to know,” said Bronzetti. “Plus Liverpool asked for €70million (£60million).”

The worrying news is that it again appears then that Liverpool are open to bids for their influential captain.

Indeed, very worrying. This source added.

It also emerged over the weekend that Liverpool have been in talks with Fiorentina over the sale of left back Emiliano Insua prior to Roy Hodgson’s appointment, and another report suggesting Palermo have held talks similarly for midfielder Lucas Leiva.

If all of this is true then it’s more than a tad worrying. Whilst clearly the asking price could be deemed inflated one wonders why Liverpool are even putting a price on Steven Gerrard’s head because if they are then it may well encourage our captain to consider his options because he may feel that the club is looking to cash in on his services.

This whole situation reminds a little of what happened to Kaka and AC Milan. After years of loyal service the Brazilian attacker found himself the target of a great deal of speculation and was continually linked with a move to Real Madrid. The player himself said very little about it and in fact seemed to be happy to continue at the San Siro but the cash strapped club, poorly run by Silvio Berlusconi, decided to put a wild valuation on the player, hoping to either cash in or scare off interest. The problem was that the La Liga giants were more than happy to pay up and Kaka felt that as the club had apparently stated their intentions by not making it clear he was not for sale he may as well leave the club.

Hopefully we can instead put out a statement similar to the one that Arsenal made about Cesc Fabregas, where the north London side made it clear that NO offer would be accepted for the Emirates captain.

Less worrying perhaps is the talk of a Lucas Leiva exit. The Brazilian definitely improved last season but is still in my view not good enough to play for a club hoping to play Champions League football as well as looking to become genuine title chasers.

Emiliano Insua is a different kettle of fish though. The Argentine has potential and we really should look to harness it rather than looking to offload him to the Serie A side.

spek u lay shon

No quotes from the player himself more scaremongering.
Football is a relatively simple game and Roy knows it ;)

Real rule out Gerrard bid

Real Madrid have ruled out a move for Steven Gerrard due to the Liverpool captain's age and valuation, according to the club's transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti.

Jose Mourinho's appointment as Real coach earlier in the summer prompted speculation that the Spanish giants would launch a bid for Gerrard.

Former Chelsea manager Mourinho tried to sign Gerrard during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge, but appears unlikely to make a renewed effort to work with the England midfielder.

Gerrard's future at Anfield had been the source of debate following the club's failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season and the departure of Rafa Benitez.

However, Bronzetti has revealed that Real president Florentino Perez is not keen to add Gerrard to his squad for next season, with a hefty price tag one reason behind the reluctance to make a bid.

"Kaka will stay at Real, but the president does not agree with Gerrard because he is 30 and Perez doesn't want to know," Bronzetti told GR Parlamento.

"Plus, Liverpool asked for €70m [£58m]."

Bronzetti revealed Mourinho is keen to sign a player in the mould of Gerrard after ruling out an offer for Inter Milan full-back Maicon.

He added: "Mourinho is convinced to leave Sergio Ramos on the right and now he wants a central defender or midfielder like Gerrard.

"Real did not make an offer for Maicon, there was a request of €35m [£29m from Inter]."

Well hopefully this one is now put to bed. I must confess I don't believe it 100% is, but I've changed my mind and am now fairly positive Gerrard will be playing for us next season. It's fantastic news if true, and I think we'll see him deployed as a holder with license behind Aquilani and a.n. other.

Unfortunately, I think we've seen the best of SG, poor season (by his standards) and a dreadful world cup, he is 30 now too. I don't know why he disappeared as captain when all the Terry stuff was going on but he hasn't let LFC down as captain and should keep the role.

Also - Carra is well past it. Top bloke but he is a liability in defense now.

Mourinho wanted the younger SG at Chelsea but there's no way Real Madrid have a place in their team for him.

After their success in the world cup, they dont need to bring in foreign players to spice up their squads.

Now that it has been established Gerrard will stay ... I have a feeling he will want to make this coming season for Liverpool one of his best ,I  would have to say Englands capitulation and embarrassment at the hands of Germany hurt Gerrard more than most ...the pain and subsequent humiliation was etched on his face for all to see .... and I suspect  he will want to put on a show this season and prove to the watching world he is still a force to be reckoned with ......................

Despite the emabrassment that was England in SA I think most would agree Gerrard was Englands best performer. Having said that we really do need him to be on form this season if we are to have any chance of getting back into the top 4.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

I don't think he will this season Lad .... last season just slipped through his fingers and before he knew it his strop had developed into a full blown dummy spit ,and by the time he had come out the other side he had left it too late to implement any great change in our on the field circumstances ....
I personally think that Stevie will be ready for this season and will prove unlike last season that if Liverpool fail he  wont be blamed in any respect  for Liverpools failure
