The imminent squad reshuffle... - ...thoughts?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

There are no English players at the top level worth the money so best bet may to be recruit younger lads and give them a shot rather tha waste our budget on over priced, ordinary footballers with English qualification. We have already started with the kid from Charlton so lets give him a place to make the numbers up along with one or two young lads from the ressies or something. Feck paying top coin for Ashley Young or frikking Milner types they are shat.Least God was smiling upon us when Rafa tried to drag that carthorse Barry our way or that would have been another £20m down the pan, sweet jesus have you seen that lad trying to run

We got some very good English lads in the academy at the moment - a few of them played in the successful England under 19 team this summer which won the champs

I personally don't care where players come from, but I do think there is something to said for buying players who have some experience of playing in England. Blokes such as Mikael Arteta would be absolutely risk free, while unless you buy the very best players from other leagues can be a bit hit and miss. That said, Benny does have a point when he talks of how expensive the players can be. Smalling who our own Roy Hodgson bought for a bag of crisps and a lucozade was a good example. The Mancs paid 12 million quid for him, and he's barely even played for Fulham.

Equally, I've long said that if anybody can be bothered to look there are bargains to be had in the Championship. I don't watch enough of it to start throwing names in, but I simply don't accept that there aren't any good players there.

That's ok isn't it? I think he is one of those players that could do well under Hodgsen.

Considering some of our greatest players were sweatys its about time we went back up there and had a gander

Hopefully Roy feels the same. But again it depends on how much he has to spend.

Thats a plus about RH
I would trust him to make something out of any rough diamond we picked up, and to bring on the kids who show signs of being good enough.

James McCarthy now at Wigan is a very good footballer. I'd have taken him and still would for anything under £4m. We should be looking at the 17,18,19 year olds in the football and the Scottish leagues. It's not very often, if at all, that you find one who's 27 but hasn't already been snapped up by an established Prem side. Off the top of my head there's been Delph, Bale, Jagielka and Walcott in recent years. Hopefully we've made strides in this direction with the signing of Jonathan Shelvey.

Have we signed that Danny Wilson yet? He should come straight into the first team, but not heard anything confirmed yet.

I agree that British players can be overpriced, but there are plenty of good players out ther that can be had at a reasonable cost and will be proven in the league, they don't have to be the stars of the team just good professionals to support the expensive star players.
I'm sure every now and then one of these players will turn into a gems themselves.
I think Stephen Ireland could be one of those, and i dare say he would cost less then say Riera, Diouf, Cisse ect ect...
There of course are great foriegn buys too, but i don't think it's a bad idea to have a bit more balance.
