Good luck and all the best. Would have been great if he was somehow still involved with us.

Absolutely gutted to see him go. He's still a perfect choice these days against hoofball teams like Stoke, Bolton and teams who sit back and doesn't have pacey attackers. Who will be our 4th choice CB now ? :(

That's a shame. I think he still had something to offer Liverpool.

Farewell to one of the greats.

As for Liverpool, this move compounds the problems at the back. Benitez is going to have to do something in the Summer.

It's been so many years of service!! I don't know if I can find the list of most games with a red shirt, but Sami Hyypia must be surely in the top 5? It's been so many years and games.

All I have to say is a big thank you.

Ooooooh Sami Sami

Sami, Sami, Sami, Sami Hyypia.

I asked in another thread if people think Sami in his pomp was better than Vidic is, I'll post it here to expand this thread beyond sentiment.

It is a shame to see a great servant go, but he's played only 14 times this season and looks like he wants regular 1st team football. Maybe another league will suit him better than the Premiership. He will miss out on a league winners medal if there is no miracle this season

SAMI HYYPIA PREMIERSHIP APPEARANCES

99/00 38 apps (2 goals)
00/01 35 apps (3 goals)
01/02 37 apps (3 goals)
02/03 36 apps (3 goals)
03/04 38 apps (4 goals)
04/05 32 apps (2 goals)
05/06 36 apps (1 goal)
06/07 23 apps (2 goals)
07/08 27 apps (1 goal)
08/09 14 apps (1 goal)

A remarkable record of keeping fit. Only Carragher and Gerrard have played more Premiership games for us. He's not got that many fewer trophies to his name than the club in the Premiership, the League Cup triumph of 1995 is the only trophy he wasn't here for. He's done pretty well to last through two managers and 10 years, not many players could manage either. Rafa cleared out most of Houllier's signings, in fact he is the last Houllier signing to leave and on his own terms.

Will he play again? If opportunity arises I'm sure Rafa will bring him on, not so sure he'll start him. He's our oldest player by a few years, he was bound to leave/retire/suffer a career ending injury sooner or later. He's done more for the club than a lot of his predecessors in this Premiership era, and more than some of his current team-mates and future LFC players ever will.

Such a shame he's not going to end his career with us but it's a mark of the man he's still desperate to play every week at 35.

Cheers Owzat interesting data that, and to be honest I expected Hyypia to have more games.

Best of luck Sami.  Never let us down in 10 years.

Would love to see him back in a coaching role at some point.

Don't know what to say about big Sami that hasn't already been said by others. A great servant and a true LFC legend (and I don't use this term lightly mind).

Best of luck with the rest of your career Sami, and hopefully we'll see you back at Anfield in some capacity.

What a defender.
Always dependable.
I used to have a theory (during the GH era :p), that when Liverpool was losing,
that is because Sami was off form.

All the Best Sami. YNWA!!  :bowdown  :buttrock
