LIVERPOOL VS SUNDERLAND 13/8/2011 - This is it. kennys real return

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Lets be honest here... Blame the ref all we want but we were well in control the first half (partly because Sunderland were reluctant to get forward and partly because Downing was running the show all over the place)... Even then, we failed to get the ball moving through the middle of the park and largely resorted to long balls.. Fact we had many bodies in the final third meant we looked more dangerous given the style..

Second half, Sunderland come out and tried to attack.. We continued with our long balls and we couldnt get any sort of decent attacking moves going... Defensively, Adam and Flanagan were both pretty poor with their positioning and tackling... Enrique didnt show enough and despite playing a side with serious problems upfront we still seemed to have problems containing them..

I thought we didn't play downing enough ,played long ball at carrol (which won almost every battle in the air) but with no one  supporting him. Anderson was active but in no way effective. And the Meireles sub was redundant put N'gog in he is your backup striker after all.

The team seems much more talented and in control. Some very nice passing of the ball ,but we are missing the bottom line. Could be our stamina at this stage ,thought the fans were also flat today. A shame we couldn't net a few more on the first half.

Ref was $hit ,no excuse for not sending richardson off.

who the hell is anderson?

maybe he was talking about the drink he had...

I'd love to see where Adam is on the list + the passes made by Henderson...
Henderson did a Lucas today and seemed to pass backwards at every chance...

Just got back, thought we played well first half, flat and disjointed the second.
Strange substitutions, bring Miereles on and put him on the left moving Downing inside, so sacrifice our width....?

Missed Johnson I thought too.

Also they looked fitter and controlled the midfield second half, why do we give so much game time in pre-season to players who aren't even on the bench the first game?

Henderson did okay first half but is never a right sided player, have to say Larsson looks a steal on a free transfer for them.

Needed 3 points today with next weekend in mind.

Not the end of the world. First game of the season now out of the way. We will get better, and in the first half today were very good. Patience brothers and sisters!

This just places more importance on the Arsenal game. But tbh we usually raise our game against the big sides.

I thought Saurez came out very tired and flat in the 2nd 45 - he really isn't ready to even go 60 min.  That seemed to throw everything off, lots of misplaced passes in the 2nd, hardly any in the 1st.

I would like to think the season is going to go much more like the 1st half than the second.  glass half full? :grinning:

Moaning at the moaners? Interesting. People have a right to vent. It'll pass. There were enough positives. I guess KK will be enlightented. Hopefully we can get a new defender in too.
