Liverpool Vs Roma 24/04 19:45 ko - CL Semi final 1st Leg

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby redshade » Mon Apr 23, 2018 4:53 am

Here it comes the stage we've all been waiting for.
Can't believe it we are in the semi final with a huge chance of getting to the final.

We must do everything in order to prevent Roma from scoring.

I don't watch Seria A so to be honest not really aware of how they play so maybe someone could shed some light.

From what I've heard they seem to be a compact side a bit pragmatic but punishable.

I would love it if we can at least take a 2-0 lead to the 2nd leg.

We will have our main Xi back for this so I'm expecting our defence to keep it solid at the back.

Our slags are better than their slags.

Expect Roma to park the bus and kick 7 bells out of our Fab 3. Any team would be stupid not to do that. They've watched the Man Utd game video and City and WBA, they know not to attack us (but as low goal scorers they don't do that anyway), they know to attack TAA and they know they can catch us on the break. The best thing in our favour is Roma is an old team...

Conclusion, it's going to be a tough game, won by the Liverpool defense: if we don't let them score - and they've scored a massive 25 goals fewer than us in the league this season... then our propensity to score will see us through. It's a chance for the back 4 to stake their claims for 1st team regular places next season.....  (TAA for Gomez, Robertson to see off Moreno for good and Lovren to get one over Matip). Henderson, Milner and Winjeboom have to step up and dominate midfield to allow the Fab 3 to roam at will pulling the Roma shape to pieces.

3-1 to the Reds.

Come on Red Men !!!!!!   :buttrock  :bowdown  :buttrock

Having knocked out Barcelona by coming back from 4-1 down in the last round, this lot are not to be underestimated. The situation is similar scenario to the quarter final :-

1. We need to keep the back door shut at home by not conceding.

2. Score a few and take a decent lead to Rome.

I predict a 3-0 advantage will be enough to see us through. If we do what we did to FC Porto, 5-0 etc. We can win this tie in the first leg.

I wish I was going to Anfield, the Atmosphere will be immense.

Bring it on mutha fckers :buttrock

Are you sure those results are correct Reg? Could have swore I remember Owen getting a hat trick at their place one time.
Unless I'm getting them mixed up with someone else.

Came off espn sports website mate. Maybe you're thinking of this:

Spartak Moscow 1-3 Liverpool, October 22, 2002
A Michael Owen hat trick sealed three points in Liverpool's Champions League campaign.
This victory marked the first time that an English team had won away at Spartak.

I don't know about you lot, but strangely, I'm not as nervous in anticipation of this fixture as I was for the Man City game!

i'm strangely optimistic...

Yeah that could be it mate, I remember him getting a hat trick away in Europe against a team playing in red shirts, thought it was Roma for some reason but as you say it must have been them.
Sorry Reg.

We were definately the underdogs going into that City game, many people fancied them not just get past us but to win the trophy itself, we go into this game however as slight favourites.
Not sure which one I prefer, we seem to be at our best when we know the odds are against us.

Think this tie could be decided on away goals.

I'd settle for a home win by any score as long as we can keep a clean sheet at home.

If they have to chase the game in the second leg I can deffo see us sticking a few past them.   :buttrock

Yep ,maintaining a clean sheet is vital..even a goal less draw would be ok as we are a pretty good away team...
It has the smell of the Sevillia game after we beat Dortmund and thought it would be a breeze in the park...
Roma are a weaker team then City for sure but they will play a much more conservative style and will not commit bodies forward ,we need to be patience and play smart.
They have a very physical MF so just need to keep the aggressive level high and count on our attacking diamonds to do the rest.

Think this has to be won at home. The crowd in Rome will be hugely partisan and likely to put the fear of God into our lot, esp Salah. Not expecting Mo to have a great two games, to be honest, there's a lot of pressure on him in particular. And I think if Lovren is up against that man mountain there's only going to be one winner every time.
This is deffo a tie for high tempo as I don't think Roma will have the legs..

We just have to approach it in the same manner as the City tie, high tempo and pressing, keep it tight at the back, focus and concentration, and we should be OK.

I think Roma will sit back and try to be difficult to break down, compact etc, but I don't think they can play through us easily, or outplay us.  but I think the Anfield atmosphere will definitely effect them.

Maybe they will surprise us though. But we can go to Rome and score ourselves, a stadium Salah knows well.

First leg is all about keeping a clean sheet :nod

Cannot wait for this one :buttrock

If Roma defeat us over 2 legs they must be a good side particularly to get anything at Anfield.

Clean sheet at home is key and be interesting to see how the keepers match up over the piece, Alisson will be tested as Im sure will Karius.

Be fantastic so lets just enjoy it.

Can't wait for this. 3 hour journey to Anfield and aiming to get there nice and early and soak it all in.

I'm quite near the Roma fans this time so it'll be an interesting night, didn't get the chance to see European fans last time as it was City so looking forward to that.

Any win with a clean sheet and I'll be happy.

If we get a couple of goals and a clean sheet i think its done.

I hope we have a ferocious start and get couple of quick goals.

The atmosphere will be euphoric tomorrow.

Klopptomaniac enjoy it mate and sing your heart out. The fans that go there are amazing and so crucial.
