Liverpool Football Club - Games

s@int wrote:Danny Murphy has accused Rafa Benitez of throwing up a smokescreen over Liverpool's spending in the transfer market.

The Fulham captain, 32, spent seven successful seasons at Anfield and was a key part of the side that won a famous 'Treble' in 2001.

He was shown the door by Benitez soon after the Spaniard's arrival and six years later is on course to face his old club in the Europa League final.

Benitez has spent £229million on players and while Chelsea and Manchester City have spent more, Murphy believes it should have been enough.

He explained: "They've certainly had enough money in summers gone by and have had some good players. You can analyse it all you like but the expectation is to be successful - and that's not happened.

"I'm as disappointed as anybody at the way they are doing at the moment. I want to see them do well but they've been struggling.

"The simple fact is that the last few years have not been up to the standards Liverpool expect - and Rafa set those himself in his first year by winning the Champions League.

"I think the turnaround of players has been a little bit too high.

"They have had some good players there like Craig Bellamy, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane.

"Then, this year, Fernando Torres was injured and they are struggling for a striker. They have had players who were capable of filling in there."

We are one dimensional. We have no backup. People know how to play against us. He wont make changes til 60 minutes... all this has to show that the mans gotta go

He's made no more bizzarr choices than any other current top manager in the league or any other top league in the world. People love to bang on about Mourinho, but the difference between the two managers is fairly clear IMO. One had to come to a club and do a complete overhaul, and complete restructure from top to bottom while restablish that club back to it's former glory. The other just came in with everything set in place from a previous manager, but with an owner with bottomless pockets who is a ruthlessly effecient businessman. Could you have seen Mouinho come to us with Houllier's squad and win us the title with it nevermind the CL? Inter Milan? Weren't Inter running away with the title for the past few seasons too? It reminds me of Chelsea supporters whenever I read their views after their side draws or losses. "Sack Ancelotti" or "Sack Scolari". F*cking laughable. Two managers that came in, sat atop of the league with a side that wasn't even their own, yet they want them sacked. Mourinho merely comes to clubs and does well off the back of the good work that the previous manager built over the course of several seasons. I'd actually love to see him build a side from scratch, whilst being outspent by the likes of Spurs most seasons.

What's unbelievable that you and others think that we had a good game against a team that parks the bus inside the 18 and has 2 shots....

Maybe we should keep Rafa for Europe games only and bring another one for the EPL ,this disgrace can't continue and he is whining on future plans and purchases...

Because you'd have to be a clueless gobsh*te to say that it wasn't a decent performance. We were all over the kunts for 90 minutes. It happens. Dry your f*ckin eyes!

Yep i'm gobsh*te and yet we still couldn't produce more then 2 chances against a team which came with half it's squad and didn't even try countattacking...And you call it a "Decent" Performance ,this kinda of "understanding" would keep Rafa and his disgusting tactics for ages.

Open your eyes you probably only listened to the game.

Just the manager? Since Shanks the fans have always held the manager close to their heart. You only have to look on the Kop to see them on the banners. And the way you speak of him is as if he never won the European Cup. He deserves respect.

Seemingly every week we get this same scenario, terrible result and performance followed by an argument between people who think the manager has had his time, and those who think it's not down to him. I wonder if you'd told people after we won the FA Cup four seasons ago that it would be the last trophy we'd win until now, and we'd be seriously in danger of not finishing in the top 6 in the league after six seasons of Rafa whether people would have believed you. Even more unbelieveable would be have been the possibility of people STILL clinging on in desperation. Unfortunately, peoples aspirations have been whittled down and down to such an extent that it's all considered par for the course.

I watched the Spurs/Pompey FA Cup semi today on the telly and when they said that Portsmouth had been at Wembley four times in the last couple of seasons  couldn't help but shake my head. Not only that, but they did win the FA Cup as well, and they're in the final this time around. Yesterday Aston Villa were robbed at Wembley for the second time in six weeks. They got robbed in the Carling Cup final against the Mancs, and were robbed in the FA Cup semi yesterday. They still may also finish above us us the league (infact they ought to if they pull their finger out).

We in the meantime have never played at the new Wembley, and are now in danger of being overtaken in the league by Everton. If you'd laid out this scenario four years ago you'd have got laughed off. If they'd have told you that Liverpool fans were still backing the manager under such circumstances, and while they were doing it calling fans that couldn't show the same loyalty a disgrace and a joke, the men in the white coats would have carted you off never to be seen again. Truly incredible it is.

Sour grapes, Danny? The f*ck's he know about running a football club, anyway? Should keep his gob shut. Didn't deserve that ovation he got either.
