Xabi alonso - Praise where praise is due

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Sorry but this has to be said. The guy oozes class and will become a Liverpool great. I mean when you think about the fee we paid for him, it seems to be an absolute snip when you consider that the guy's only 24 and is nowhere near his peak yet. The passes for the goals last night were top class, even if Brian Marwood described the ball for Garcia as "a hopeful punt". If that had been Rooney, everybody would have been lauding it for weeks to come.

It seems to me that he has excelled since Gerrard moved out of the centre. Moving Stevie G to the right has not only balanced the team up by providing width and an attacking outlet on the right but given Alonso and Hamann/Sissoko more confidence to go about their game the way we know they can. Hell Alonso's even our joint top scorer in the League this season. If he starts adding more goals to his game on a regular basis, God knows how good he can become.

Bet Manure and Madrid are gutted, especially as Alonso "chose" to come to us. :D

Great shout. Alonso is proving to be an absolute bargain and tends to ease the pain that we spent far too much on cisse.

I could not believe the class that he showed in that excellent pass to Gerrard. This man will become world-class as he is top-class already. The next Jan Molby!

Just imagine having, a world-class finisher on the end of his passes...

Rafa's best buy without a doubt

Mind you, we practice good football in San Sebastian  :eyebrow

I'm so happy that he's become such an useful member of the squad, imagine how many posts would write the Aussie guys if he was Aussie </kidding>

I think that the best of all is that he's hasn't reached his peak as a player yet. I do hope he's well tied to Liverpool. Wouldn't want him to see ANYWHERE else. I expect him to be there many years, and when he's 31 or something he come home again to a good retirement, just like other players did

i'm amazed just how underrated he seems to be by some quarters of the press. like i said before, if he was english the press would be lauding him week in week out. the obvious comparison is carrick at spurs. as good a player as he is, he's not in alonso's league.

Ive been banging on about Alonso since i joined tgis forum a year or so ago Wrighty. Ages ago i compared him to Jan Molby , the work engine of our midfield , marshalling  the build ups to attacks at goal.

Half the reason why he isnt mentioned no where near as much as he should be in the media is that he plays for us and not the gooners or the manure etc , and your bang on when you say about having a world class finisher to his passes...............if only !!!!    :p

The man is utter class. The fact that the papers/media in general don't rate him suits me down to the ground. Saying the ball for Garcia was a hopeful punt is utter b*llocks. This Brian Marwood obviously hasn't seen Xabi play before, otherwise he wouldn't make such a stupid remark. If you watch him just before the ball comes to him, he's already thought about it. Does this "pundit" not realise that moves of that calibre don't just happen through luck!?! The one half-yard of space in the entire Sunderland half that could've resulted in a goal. Thats a bit more than hopeful!

Anyhooo, as long as the media underrate him, the chances are he'll stay at LFC, quietly going about his business of demolising teams with the minimum amount of fuss.

Job, my friends, is a f*cking good 'un.

Spot on, as long as we keep winning CL, or EPL or titles, why would we need to read the press at all, we'd be celebrating

Yes, but for the first time in 15 years, England sounds as a favourite to the WC here in Spain. Gerrard, Lampard in the middle, Owen Rooney upfront, should worry anyone, not to mention the best defence of the world...

Its nice to see Xabi finally pulling his finger out and playing as delightfully as most of last season. This looks good to me, folks.

He produced 2 absolute class through balls last night, and with left foot first and right foot second.
Tbh i wasn't surprised, he makes the game look so easy and we play at a different level whenever he is in the side.
