He should go.  Don't even keep him as cover because Xabi is out.  Biscan can fill in there.

Even better, sign another midfielder.  Someone mentioned Malbranque, even though I don't know if Rafa is interested.  I know the previous regime was, but that's out of the window now.  Malbranque would probably only be a squad player, but so is Diao.

Except Malbranque is twenty times the player.

McCann is injured for them so could be a possibility, but know doubt will be a loan deal due to Ellis's stingyness

Looks like hes going to the brummies.

Birmingham are set to sign Liverpool midfielder Salif Diao on loan for the rest of the season.

Blues are close to agreeing a six-month deal for the Senegal international as a short-term replacement for Blackburn-bound Robbie Savage.

Aston Villa boss David O'Leary is trying to sign players on short-term contracts or on loan and Diao would have fitted the bill. His own midfield dynamo, Gavin McCann, is sidelined for the remainder of the campaign with a knee injury.

Diao, 28 next month, is understood to prefer a move to St Andrews after becoming surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Blues have plenty of midfielders but no-one quite like Savage and Bruce is hoping Diao will add steel in the centre of the park.

Diao is not viewed as the long-term answer to Savage whose move to Ewood Park should be completed in the next 24 hours.

How ironic wud it be to loan him to the Brummies, let him play against us and see him play his first blinder in months/years? Lets hope theres some clause in that loan agreement that he cant play against us the way our lucks runnin.

Ive just had a thought I know hes cr@p like but if he goes  we only have Gerrard, Hamman and Igor as midfielders if he goes as Alonsos out for 3 months, will Rafa sign another midfielder or have we got midfield cover in the reserves?
