If we have enquired about the availability of Benzema, Cavani and Falcao after already forking out £100m in this window then we really mean business.

One of those three would be an absolute fantastic coup and really lift us going into the season. I trust Sturridge but over a full season you need two top strikers.

We're basically waiting for Real to make a move tho, they get Falcao and we can move for Benzena.

Are there any other names out there who could cut it other than those obvious three?

even if real do get falcao we will not get benzema    there will be other clubs interested and we wont offer what they do 
ive seen a few posting that ayre deserves credit for the moreno deal, not from me though as he is just doing his job. if he can land a signing like benzema then i would give the credit because he would actually have beaten other clubs for his signature.

Brendan Rodgers has promised to pursue a world class striker right up to midnight on deadline day.

Liverpool boss Rodgers has had Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani on his hit-list after selling 31-goal player of the year Luis Suarez to Barcelona, but admits he is struggling to attract a goal-scorer capable of improving his attacking side.

Rodgers said: “The money is there - and we will look to improve at the top end of the field until the very end of the window.

“It’s not easy to get a top level striker, no. But we have to keep looking. We certainly need something, because we haven’t brought in another striker so far, apart from Rickie Lambert.

“You just never know what will happen in that last week - the window will always throw up something. We will persevere, and the boys are working hard behind the scenes to see what information we can get on the availability of players.”

Despite receiving a knock-back from world-class Monaco hitman Falcao, Rodgers hasn’t completely given up all hope of the Reds snaring the Colombia international.

The 28-year-old, back in action after a knee injurt that kept him out of this summer's World Cup, has set his heart on a move to Real Madrid and has dismissed any alternative - despite being desperate to leave France.

       



     

But sources in Spain suggest there is no chance of a deal to take the former Atletico Madrid star to their city rivals, which leaves the faint prospect of a move to Anfield instead.

Rodgers is prepared to wait until the last few hours of the window on September 1st, and offer the prospect of a year long loan deal... which would allow Falcao to keep his options open.

If not, Liverpool will pursue Paris Saint-Germain's Edison Cavani - a player he greatly admires - as an alternative, even though the Uruguayan, Suarez's international strike partner, has also played down the prospect of a switch.

The Kop club's fans were underwhelmed by the idea free agent Samuel Eto’o, now 33, could arrive as a stop-gap replacement for the departed Suarez, but Anfield insiders suggest that is very much a last resort option.

Mr Rodgers is very happy with his signings, so he says, 3 Southampton players + some others ive never heard of!??

Point is, if u look back in history over past 24 years since 1990, what it tells u is u cant win the league with average/fringe players.

Roy Evans/ Greame Souness- could not do it with Nigel Clough, Dean Saunders, Razor Ruddock, Phil Babb, John scales, Rob Jones etc etc.

Gerard Houllier - Could not do it, with Baros, Smicer, Biscan, Harry kewell, Danny Murphy,Le tallec, henchoz etc.

Rafa- could not win league with Babel, Kuyt, Riera, nunez, pelligrino, zenden, mascha, etc.

Id be surprised if BR can win us the league with, Llalana, Lovren, Ricky Lambert, Joe Allen, Lucas, an ageing Stevie G, etc etc.

Over the years we have only had 1/2 top quality players in our team....

First it was the Robbie Fowler / Redknapp show
Then it was the Steven Gerrard./ Michael Owen show
Then it was the Gerrard/ Torres show
Then it was the Gerrard/ Suarez show.

You cant win the league with just 1/2 top players in your side, you just cant! you need the depth of that quality throughout the side, like man city have.

Until we can attract decent top players, we can expect to aim for 4th-7th place, maybe 3rd at best.

The signings are a major concern. BR says hes happy, who else is happy with that lot!??

I know what you are saying mate but maybe those star players are already at the club. As the old saying goes sometimes you can be too busy staring at the moon to see the sixpence at your feet.The likes of Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge, Markovic, Ilorri, Ibe, Moreno etc have the potential to be top, top players who can achieve a lot in the game.
I think our biggest problem will be holding on to them.

errrr... we finished 2nd last season lad...
Minor details such as a poor timed red card and a slip cost us the league in the end. 

We have plenty of quality players in our squad.

Of all the players you mentioned above, none of them were world class when we signed them... we made them world class by fitting them into a system that suited their strengths.

If your expectations are winning the league this season, prepare to be disappointed.

For the more realistic supporter, who understands that maturing and growing a squad to the stage they can win a title takes more than two seasons, a top 4 finish is a successful season.

Three Southampton players..etc etc and we have got Champions league this season. Not ideal preparation I feel.

We got 75m for Suarez, should have got two "big" names for that cash, maybe Falcao. 40m and a top.midfielder.

Yes we finished 2nd, but I think top four only tgis season.

Without a clinical striker to partner Sturridge, 4th place finish would be a welcome relief considering how much we missed LS in the Soton game.

I'd would looovvveee to see Falcao/Cavani coming to us but those 2 buggers don't seem to be keen in coming. So I reckon there is only a very slim chance it can materialise.

So I'd say we're left with Eto or Bony as 2nd choice alternatives.
