Title run-in - The home straight

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Rockthekop » Sat Apr 11, 2009 6:23 pm

We've definitely got the momentum going and are playing well but Utd aren't, yet are still grinding out results.

We should have been in a much stronger position but thanks to our bad run and inability to beat cack teams at home we aren't.

I really believe the league title should be ours this season and with any luck it will be.  It will be a huge disappointment if we don't win it.

Exactly.

If Bolton can put three past Chelsea at the Bridge then so can we.  Chelsea are massive favourites, and you would write almost any other team out of it completely, but not us.  We are probably the only team around capable of turning this sort of position around.  We will need almost everything to go for us on the night though, a bit like Chelsea had at Anfield.

You don't give up, even when you're 8-0 down.

Not if you expect to pull that shirt on again, anyway.

Ah man check when I posted that, emotions running high and sh.it, I should refrain from posting right after a bad result

It is going to be a massive ask though, although Bolton showed today it can be done. Ill be keeping hope as usual

I was one of the few who thought we could still do it at half time in Istanbul so I do have the spirit usually

yeah bolton did put in 3 but they conceded 4!!!  I know we will score at the bridge and also im certain chelsea will score aswel. It will be an open game. 4-2 to liverpool....

Anyhow mannure are really doing my head in they should have lost against villa and drawn here. Would have completely wacked thier confidence and then we could have been closer to getting the title.
Personally i think they will continue winning and will crawl thier way to glory. This is typical mannure shyte this is how things are done. They remind me of when they won the champs league in 99. Bayern battered them all the way and yet in the last couple min they snatch victory.

Im sure we will keep momentum and win all of our games but as for mannure i really dont know.
There is a bliiip they are going through but its not going to last longer give it a few games and i think they will get out of it.

Im proud of liverpool anyhow atleast we are giving a good challenge and still in it with only few games to go!
Best season for us in the league for many years.

We must be very tight at the back. To concede a goal early on would be a real blow too even though a 3-1 would force extra time.

I think we need to thinking attack attack attack. To let in  one goal doesn't really matter, I would consider it a huge achievement to force extra time, and would certainly take it if it was offered right now.  Scoring at least 3 is all that matters.  Even if we allow 2 goals, we would only need 1 more goal than we already need.

I said this to bav via PM. Chelsea will f*ck things up for us regards concentration between the two competitions...but its Arsenal who hold the key to this title being decided. They play all 3 so it is vital we get a result next weekend and lay our marker down first.

We play them a week on tuesday they have Chelsea in the fa cup next weekend.

So really the Chelsea game should not affect us in terms of resting players. We should be well prepared for Arsenal whatever the result in the CL.

Sorry lads (and ciggy!) i had it in me head that we were playing them on the 19th still - the sunday.

Rafa taunts Fergie: I can't
understand a word he says

By Malcolm Folley Last updated at 7:59 PM on 11th April 2009

Rafa Benitez has told Sir Alex Ferguson not to bother cranking up the mind games during the Premier League title run-in - because he does not understand a word the Scot says.

Benitez's team kept the pressure on Manchester United yesterday, as a superb Fernando Torres double inspired a 4-0 win over Blackburn that lifted them briefly into top spot.

Liverpool were overtaken when Federico Macheda hit a late winner for United at Sunderland but, whatever happens in the next few weeks, Benitez claims he will not be psyched out by his rival.

'Mind games are for managers who are affected by mind games, but I don't understand him - because he talks in a Scottish accent,' said Benitez, who was taunted by Ferguson beforehand for talking too much about his rivals.

And he insisted: 'I don't care that he [Ferguson] talks of me, but I know he's nervous. That's good.'

Benitez has experience of outfoxing his rivals, having won the Spanish title twice with Valencia.

'Normally I am very focused just on my team before every game and I don't care about what people say,' he revealed.

'I have to decide about my players with my staff, so we just talk about my team. If you have to play this game, I can play this game. You have to know exactly the meaning of each sentence and each word and maybe I would enjoy it more in Spain, where we can do it in Spanish.

'In England, for me it is more difficult but, if I have to do it, I will do it.

'I prefer to talk about football but sometimes you have to do it. You know my idea; when someone is talking too much, you have to say, "listen, enough is enough".

'We're a massive club and you know what it means for a lot of people here, the fans - it's amazing. So I'm really happy here but, if you have to say something, you have to say something.'

There was no misunderstanding Liverpool's intent yesterday, with Torres in inspired form on the day Anfield marked the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster.

He took only four minutes to lift the sombre atmosphere with a world-class strike on the turn, before heading in his 14th goal of the season and he believes it gives the team the ideal lift as they attempt to overhaul a 3-1 Champions League deficit at Chelsea on Tuesday.

'It was a great result coming after the game against Chelsea,' he said.
