The agents should be held to account

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If the report in todays Echo is correct then Steven Gerrard has said exactly the right things and certainly seems to mean them. Reading the article gives every reason to believe that the whole sorry case is over FOR GOOD ! but the underlying problem of the role agents played should not be brushed under the carpet by the FA.
There should now be an enquiry, not just into this case, but into every similar incident over the past couple of years. There's a cancer in the game that must be cut out and it should never happen again that some no-talent Don King type parasite can cause such damage to a clubs relationship with a player.
Gerrard must now be on his guard all the time and the club should do some monitoring of the circle of friends and advisors he is hanging around with. We've a massive investment in the boy and it is ridiculous that some ingraciating leech could get this close to turning his head.

Please God we've got a 100% committed Gerrard back. That he can see that Benitez is the boss and is doing his best for the club

Gerrard's comments to the Echo go fairly far, and while I'm still not happy with him, he has made all the right noises today.

For example he:

1. Blamed himself for the situation getting out of hand.
2. Acknowledged that he upset the fans.
3. Acknowledged that some fans won't be happy with him in the future.
4. Acknowledged that some of his team mates are unhappy with him and offered to give up the captaincy as a mark of respect to the other players.
5. Has said he wants to commit the rest of his playing career to Liverpool FC.
6. Has said that there won't be any more speculation, and he won't put himself and the fans through speculation ever again.

Big, big words. You got your new £100g a week contract on Friday Stevie, you got the captaincy of the European Champions, now go out and produce the goods on the pitch next season.
