Best purchase - Take account of transfer price

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Hypia hands down. Really really top class CB. Next maybe Agger as he had show tones of potential. Next in line maybe Reina. Althought he is definitely not cheap but he had proven he is one of the best keeper in the EPL. I think his ball distribution must be among the best if not the best in the world. Also,

Its been a while since we snapped up an unknown for less that £500,000 that has turned out to be a wonder kid.

Dalglish was a snip at £440,000 also.

Sure that was a record at the time.

Using the retail price index, £440,000 in 1977 is the equivalent of £1,888,932.78 now.

By that same token, the £110k we paid for Hansen works out as £472,233.20.

Paisley's tenner signing on fee is the real eye-opener though. That works out as £426.08 in today's money. Cheap at a million times the price.  :bowdown

No offence but thats boll.ocks when applied to football transfers.

It definitely cannot be applied to ticket prices either.

Football inflation isn't the same as inflation, way higher probably 30% per year.

Totally agree that with some of u that mentioned alonso and sami hypia ... Alonso cost less is much better then anderson , from what he has shown so far .. Hypia in his prime was as good as carra , campbell and the pr!ck terry

Arbeloa could turn out to be a good buy too, maybe tooearly to say
but he has eased into the team and was only £2.6M, I think.

Bill Shankley. Whatever his initial wage was, it was our greatest ever purchase :;):

Maybe a bit premature to say, but Arbeloa was only a couple of million was he not? If he carries on improving then it would be a great bargain.

has to be Hypia for 2.7 million...i think. It would have been Babbel (free) was it not for his illness.

Don't know what we paid Northampton to get Phil Neal but it was proably peanuts and the guy went on to help us win four european cups, scoring in two finals.

Just looking at that list someone put up, of each manager's best buy, Rob Jones for £300,000 - absolute steal. Injuries deprived us of possibly our best ever right back, so credit to Souness for picking him up.

What about Ronnie Whelan from Home Farm - for £35,000. Unbelievable value.

And yet another great Bob Paisley quote about signing Kenny from Celtic. :buttrock
