Sammy Lee now confirmed as Rafael Benitez's No 2 - New Assistant Manager

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The Ace1983 » Fri May 16, 2008 11:51 am

I'm very happy abut this. Sammy's a great coach and I've never heard of a player who didn't like working with him. He's got real passion and ability. Ok, so he didn't cut it as a manager, but not all coaches do. I think this is a step in the right direction. Rafa's new wave skills combined with Sammy's old school fire. It could just be a winning combination.

Its not the point, the point is tha we need an old boy to keep us in the prem.

when have been under threat of losing our premier league status?

NO

But have we been a threat in winning the the Prem.....No

18 years tell you that lakes, and im sure everyone knows this.

your point, although the truth, was pointless

stating the obvious to every member here does not make for good reading. we all know what you mean even before you posted it!
make a new point mate, thats unique

The same can be said for this post of yours.

"when have been under threat of losing our premier league status? "

All i have said is that i think its a very good move to bing back an old boy who knows what it take to win in England ...been there and done it.

At times we have all asked if Rafa only has eyes on the CL, we now there is someone to make sure we and eyes on the Prem aswell.

no it cannot be the same as your post

you said we could lose our prem status, i asked when have been under threat of that?

i thought you knew something i didnt. as it turned out, your post brought nothing new. it was a statement about something we all knew about

its called constructive criticism, but i feel you got on the defensive

Do you know something we dont then? or have i read your post wrong?

Sorry about that but what i should have put was Prem Race and not just Prem.

I understand why you posted what you did and i would have said the same if i had read the post in that way.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the appointment. Whilst Sammy didn't do particularly well as manager at Bolton, he was very successful as Allardyce's assistant, playing his part in a team that achieved well above their expected level.

He's a lively character, and he comes across as being equally disciplined in his approach to winning as Rafa. I'm hopeful he'll add a bit more balance to the backroom staff, combining Rafa's technician-like approach with his lively, upbeat yet focussed tack. We've seen too often this season players losing focus, and in some instances appearing distinctly lackadaisical, Sammy's character and approach could go some way to remedy this. He's the type of guy who'll be disciplined and tough when needed, but also a friend to the players. He'll probably add a bit more of the enjoyment factor to training, and his ability to converse in Spanish will help greatly.

I think he could also be a buffer for some of Rafa´s more intense moments and selection issues.

I remember watching Sammy take the warm up session on the field at Cardiff before the 02 FA Cup final, looked more like a freakin´disco than a warm up session but all the lads had a smile on their faces and they were buzzin´. I guess he´d have to let someone else teach the disco dancing now however.
