the more i hear the top bods at our club come out and say Rafa is safe, the more i feel he is only safe as they can not find another manager right now.

would another manager come into the club right now and make us start winning games? yes but a bit part of that is due to out best players coming back.

any manager that would take the job right now will find it hard to get the team to fit, there needs to be a lot of changes in the team line up and how the team is sent out to play, we need a manager that has the balls to say "this is not working " and make the change even if its only 20 mins into a game.

the problem with Rafa is his pride, he sets a team out and if its not working he will hold off till 65 or 70 min (or 90+2 min).

I amsure the club have been asking about for a new manager and they might be holding off till the year is over, from what i understand is that our owners would only put sammy lee in place for a very short time (2 to 3 games) befor the new manger comes in, if that is the case they might have a person ready for the job but he is under a contract till the end of the year.
(all that is only based on a report that come in to the press room from a reporter in liverpool and is still being treated as a live report, this means that the bbc feel there is some truth in it)

Has anyone seen the Rush interview on Skysports ? Well worth watching .

Talking about now is the time for everyone to get behind the manager and players and support them "thats what makes Liverpool special"

Rush always stays on the right side of Liverpool because if hes isnt on the payroll right now he will be looking to get on it in the future. I would take his comments with a pinch of salt to be honest as self preservation is no doubt in play there. It crossed my mind that in some way the fans extreme loyalty to Benitez has now caused us a major problem. To think it was not that long back the owners where clearly looking to replace him but there was such a fuss and out cry from the fans that they backed off.At the finish, and with their popularity reaching an all time low, they decided to give the paying public what they wanted and offered Benitez a big contract extension and complete control over football matters. It was quite the u turn. With the benefit of hindsight I would say be careful what you wish for, and maybe, just maybe, the controversial owners where on the right track in the first place when they sensed that perhaps the club needed a change in direction.

ermm, i've just checked the tables of our CL group and we're not actually in the europa league, because we're not out of the CL. Lyon are on 10 points with 5 goal difference, while we are on 7 pounts with -1 goal difference. now i know it is extremely unlikely but if debrecen beat lyon and we score 8 goals against fiorntina, then we may actually get in the CL knock out stages. i realise this is a ridiculous ask but as a liverpool supporter, things get a bit riduculous. so we can only hope :)

The problem is nobody wants to come to liverpool whilst those two ididots remain the owners, unless they go I can only see us descending into a steeper and steeper decline.
Rafa won't win us anything, and in fact if it wasn't for Stevie G we wouldn't have won anything! the man makes the most baffling decisions, understood by nobody.
Already you can see that Aqualani is mistified and getting dishenchanted at getting left on the bench in games that are crying out for some invention and class.
The man is a bafoon and deserves no extra time for the silverwear he has bought us because like I say if it wasn't for Stevie G the cupboard would be bare.

Not exactly the best first post, someone not even knowing the rules. But obviously s*y and all the media and fans got it wrong................................

As posted in the Europa League thread, here's a spooky comparison with 02/03, besides the obvious of having also got knocked out of the CL and into the lesser European competition.

22/12/02 Liverpool 0-0 Bitters
26/12/02 Liverpool 1-1 Blackburn
29/12/02 Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

29/11/09 Bitters vs Liverpool
05/12/09 Blackburn vs Liverpool
13/12/09 Liverpool vs Arsenal

Exact same order, only difference being the venues are reversed. We had only recently lost away to Sunderland as well, lost away to Fulham and also won 1-0 at Elland Road. In fact look down some of the fixtures and it is deja vu

28/08/02 Liverpool 2-2 Birmingham
14/09/02 Bolton 2-3 Liverpool
19/10/02 Leeds 0-1 Liverpool
02/03/03 Liverpool 2-0 Man Utd (league cup final so neutral ground)

11/08/02 Arsenal (n) lost (charity shield ie lost in a mickey mouse 'cup')
23/11/02 Fulham (a) lost
15/12/02 Sunderland (a) lost
02/02/03 West Ham (a) won
11/05/03 Chelsea (a) lost

Considering the likes of Charlton, Boro, Newcastle, Southampton, WBA and Leeds aren't in the Premiership anymore that's quite a few similar results given we've only played 14 domestic games this season - identical results in a few cases.

Of course in Premiership history this isn't quite the worst start, but it isn't much better.

WORST PREMIERSHIP STARTS (13 GAMES)

92/93 (Souness) P13 W4 D4 L5 F20 A21 PTS 16 (GD -1)
98/99 (Houllier) P13 W4 D4 L5 F20 A17 PTS 16 (GD +3)
06/07 (Benitez) P13 W5 D3 L5 F14 A15 PTS 18 (GD -1)
03/04 (Houllier) P13 W5 D3 L5 F18 A14 PTS 18 (GD +4)
04/05 (Benitez) P13 W6 D2 L5 F21 A15 PTS 20 (GD +6)
93/94 (Souness) P13 W6 D2 L5 F20 A12 PTS 20 (GD +8)
09/10 (Benitez) P13 W6 D2 L5 F29 A20 PTS 20 (GD +9)

Feck me if this season's start isn't way too similar to the Souness start of 93/94. Five defeats in the first 13 games is the (joint) most we've suffered in the Premiership. So Rafa has THREE of the worst seven Liverpool starts to the Premiership with Souness and Houllier two each, not impressive company to keep. It's not as if we've played all moderate opposition away from home, we should have got more from at least some if not all of the games against brum, Fulham, Sunderland, villa and Citeh instead of a paltry two points from 15 - three of those were at home and we got a meagre two points from nine.

Rafa does also have the best start after 13 games, but we need to make good starts and Rafa has gone back to making bad ones. He's gone quiet on the comparisons with "last season" as he latched onto last season, this time last season we had 32 points and the season before we were on 27. He's pretty safe from hitting absolute worst start territory.

In terms of Premiership goal scoring and conceding :-

MOST LIVERPOOL PREMIERSHIP GOALS SCORED (13 GAMES)

29 goals : 95/45 (13 conceded, 26 points)
29 goals : 09/10 (20 conceded, 20 points)
27 goals : 00/01
26 goals : 95/96
25 goals : 97/98
24 goals : 02/03

MOST LIVERPOOL PREMIERSHIP GOALS CONCEDED (13 GAMES)

21 goals : 92/93
20 goals : 09/10
19 goals : 00/01
17 goals : 98/99

2nd in both lists, albeit joint most goals scored only 2nd based on any of GD, GA or points.

the thing is we should win 5 out of the next 6 prem games, by doing that it will move us up the table, but when you look at who we are going to play in the next 6 prem games you can understand why we should win them.

any slip ups in the next 6 games must not happen, most of them are easy games with lower teams.
but keep in mind that if we win 5 of the next 6 it might just be wallpaper for the real problem.

IT works on head to head games first tho  :glare:

So don't matter if we win 10000000-0 we are out time to deal with it and move on.
