You need to read it again- i said PEOPLE said a manager would jump at the chance to manage us where as I myself thought that no top manager would come and manager us.

PEOPLE can say anything. It doesnt make it correct does it?
My point was that Hodsgon had the balls to step up and take the job that others feared.
I'm glad you agree with me

Where have i ever agreed with you

Shelvey was absolutely terrible, but young players do that. I don't rate him anywhere near as highly as most on here (I don't think he'll make it at Liverpool to be honest), but you can't judge kids on one performance. Spearing was World Class (kind of) in one of the matches, but he was just his usual self tonight.

Fair do's but I don't have the same expectation from Spearing as I do of Shelvey

But what was your expectation of Spearing a couple of years ago. Mine was very high but unfortunately he hasn't improved in the way I expected him to. Shelvey was a big disappointment last night but he is very young and it was an important occasion. Only time will tell.

With Henry in the stands he took a risk with his team selection but it paid off. You could see he was on pins all night, pacing about, ranting and raving. When the pen was awarded the colour literally drained from him. He was and still under pressure from fans and new gaffers but he hasnt bottled it and continues to stick to his guns and try and consider the club in the longer term. He could easily have put a full side out for his own ends. Fair play to him for not going that road and giving youth a chance.

His team selection was a disaster, but credit to him for bringing on Gerrard in the second half.  I've got to say that without him we looked absolutely average, which is really worrying.  We really need some creative players in our team.  I hope those A Young rumors are true.

Don't be fkng absurd! His team selection was not a disaster. He had the guts to put out a bunch of kids against a team that is currently doing very well in Serie A. Yes we were up against it in the first half but we went in at half time 1-0 down. Hardly a disaster. Hodgson brings on Gerrard and suddenly your disastrous selection  looks very capable, creative and threatening. The difference here is that if Benitez had done the same it would have gone down as brilliant tactics. GIVE THE BLOKE A BREAK1 He did alright.

They all bottled it. Sh'it themselves. Roy had the balls to step up to the plate. No-one "jumped at the opportunity" like I said.
You agreed

Now I know all finished well in the end, but who was our striker after Ngog was subbed and we still needed a goal to win the game ?

BTW It finished well because of Johnson's run, I can't believe he did not get much credit for that, he contributed directly to the win.

[devaney]

It was all down to Henrys wife

Benny - at last we agree on something! Ease off on Hodgson  and give him a chance. I can't remember a new manager being subjected to the sh.ite that RH has had to endure in his first few months. Things are now settling down and he is beginning to get some useful if not particularly attractive results. We gave Rafa a chance for long enough. LET'S DO IT THE LIVERPOOL WAY AND FORGET THE CONSTANT WHINGING AND GET BEHIND THE MANAGER AND THE TEAM! Leave the whinging to the idiots who never gave RH a chance from day one! If you feel that you fit into that camp then I am sorry.

Good win in the end but Gerrard is merely wallpapering over the cracks which is Roys boring boring football Z zzz

Not sure why but that second half last night has made me feel a lot more positive about things - i got a feeling it will be a massive lift to the players and the team as a whole - maybe it was the atmosphere after the 3rd goal went in but there is something that i cant really put my finger on that is making me feel positive about sunday and i think we can win there - am i mad

p.s. good subs last night taking off poulsen . Now send him to Kettering on loan .

There was a proper buzz at the end of the game and around the ground walking out.
Know exactly what you mean.

Lets hope it transfers onto the pitch and into the stands on Sunday.

LOL..brilliant, we win and its the players, we lose and its the manager.

Im not saying the manager is awesome, but credit where its duem, he made mistakes in first half, and corrected them

[bigmick]

I'm not sure he did "make mistakes in the first half" Daws to be honest. He played a bunch of kids plus some of our very experienced back up players who were much in need of a game, and neither group really stepped up. Poulsen was awful, Jovanovic completely anomymous and Johnson woeful. Shelvey and Spearing were poor, and in some respects given all of that it wasn't too bad to be only one down at the interval.

Second half, (just like Roy wasn't at fault really for the first half he wasn't the reason for the upsurge in the second either) Gerrard quite simply won the game on his own.

So now we're comparing a CL final and a Europa league group stage tie...

2005 AC Milan and 2010 Napoli...

Hey I'm happy that we won three in a row... but come on! It's Napoli and we're still in the Europa league group stages...
