i would not put gerrard in midfield as he can be the driving force of the attack if we purchase someone else for alonso. And i believe manual fernandes of valencia can be the suitable replacement for xabi.

Well I have heard again today about the possibility of us getting Villa which would mean Stevie coming back in to midfiled, imagine our firepower with Torres,Villa and Gerrard,I'm hard thinking about it

Kuyt was our best player last year, back to the thread- if the rumours about Villa are true, Stevie G would have to move back. Just imagine the firepower, maybe this is a Carlsberg thread.:D :D

We are short on strikers whether Alonso stays or goes. If he goes we will be short of midfielder too. If Alonso goes and he buys no-one then I would like to see Gerrard playing alongside Mascherano and Benayoun playing up front with Torres as the alternative is my bete noir: Lucas!

The only reason id think we'd even consider changing the Gerrard-Torres partnership is if we somehow manage to make sure the goals would come from somewhere else... Im not sure the likes of Negredo, Huntelaar, VanDerVaart...etc would be able to contribute (goals &assists) anywhere near what Gerrard has been able to do while playing the role he did last season.. id even go as far as saying Gerrard wouldnt contribute anywhere near (again in terms of goals and assists) what he did last season so to me the whole thing wouldnt even be worth considering...

However, if we're talking about a quality striker like Villa (not happening but just as an example), its a whole different story.. In Villa we would have a player who has the quality to contribute (goals and assists) just as much -if not more- than Gerrard when playing a similar role... Not only that, such an addition would give us more of an edge against the smaller sides we often struggle to break down because not only would we have Villa-Torres giving their backlines a worldclass headache, we'd also have Gerrard's drives and runs through the middle adding to our attacking threat...

and of course, Kuyt down the right flank ....

----------Gerrard----------
Kuyt                          Silva

       Villa      Torres

:;):
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road
