Pacos off - Search for new coach

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby tubby » Sat Apr 08, 2006 5:28 pm

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been unable to persuade Paco Herrera into staying on with the Reds.

The boss knows he has a huge void to fill and anyone with an inch of football knowledge knows that Herrera has played a massive part in the success that has already been achieved in such a short space of time.

Rafa is now considering who to bring in and what changes to make for next season.

There's no advertising in the KopTalk Gold Club!
He said: "We need to use Paco as much as we can before he leaves. He's been very important for us with his scouting and coaching. He is also a fantastic person, so it is a bad loss.

"But we must understand his reasons. He needs to be with his family. He has a wife and young daughter in Spain.

"The reasons for his leaving show the kind of person he is. I know he loves working here and is very grateful to the club, but you must always think about your family.

"We're thinking how we will change the structure but ensure we work in the same way. We're very happy with the work of Frank McParland, who works alongside Paco in the scouting.

"I have some ideas and the main thing is not to change what we're doing now too much, because there has been a lot of progression."

I like Thommo as a person, he bleeds for the club, but let's not forget some of the shocking transfers he was involved in when serving as assistant manager for Gerrard Houllier.  He'll be our head scout if he were to fill the position, so no thank you!  :;):

Yeah that would be nice but i doubt that would happen. Infact I wonder what his conversation with Rafa was like when he first arrived. Im sure Rafa has some other coach up his sleeve from Spain.

Good luck and best wishes to the guy - he's been a real asset, and won't be easy to replace. :)

Good luck Paco - you have been a brilliant servant to the club.

On the subject of Thompson - what the F*CK does he know about scouting? ???

I'm guessing Rafa's gonna bring someone from Spain...

Well good luck to Paco then. He's done awesome work for Liverpool and I'm sure everyone's thankful for his contribution.

His replacement has very big shoes to fill.

Paco has done a fantastic job for Rafa in the past couple of years and it's a shame he's going but you can understand his reasons (his family having stayed in spain after not being able to settle over here). With a bit of luck we may still be able to use him as a scout based in spain seeing as how he's got a good relationship with rafa and he may put us onto a few youngsters that are emerging over there.

One thing that does concern me is that I hope Rafa can find somebody as good to bring in to replace him. This situation has some remarkable similarities to the time under Houllier when Patrice Buerges left and was replaced by Jacques Crevoisier(?) which was one of the decisions that I think started the teams demise under Houllier as things just didn't seem to be the same with the team once he came in IMO. However I don't think that Rafa will make the same mistake and whereas Buerges was one of Houlliers right-hand men when it came to first team matters I don't think Herrera is doing the same sort of job for Rafa.
