Owen.... - The traitor

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'm sorry, I know this has been in the rumour thread, but this sickend me to the bone. I really hope this doesnt amount to anything, and I'm sure he wants to stay with Real to sort out his career in Spain, but, it doesnt look good. I know its a rumour, but this has to be posted, I mean, he has already turned his back on us, but to go and stab it with a knife and join our most hated rival, I'm sorry it doesn't sit well with me, and Im not sure if I can accept it. He will get the boo's and I hope that he does from the Kop if he joins ManUSA.

OWEN SET FOR OLD TRAFFORD
Press Report 19 June 2005

Michael Owen has revealed he wants to join Manchester United after accepting his career with Real Madrid is drawing to a close.

A source close to the former Liverpool star said: "It looks like Real are ready to sell. If that is the case he has a hankering to play for United. He does realise it wouldn't go down too well with the Anfield fans who used to idolise him, but that is something he is prepared to live with.

"He enjoys partnering Wayne Rooney with England and would love to partner him at club level."

United are set to launch a 15 million bid for Owen and look favourites to get their man.

Liverpool are not thought to be in the frame to resign a player who would take up most of Rafael Benitez's transfer budget.

That is sickening. He never loved Liverpool like he said he did. Him and gerrard are just in it for the money. There is only one true Liverpool Player that can say Liverpool is the club for him, nothing else matters, and that is Carracgher.

If Gerrard leaves, he will become a Rooney, and be hated by most Liverpool Fans, and if Owen joins ManUSA, he will become like Rooney too.

I'm beginning to really hate Owen

If he joined Arsenal or Chelsea I'd say good luck to him but never Manu.

Don't hate the guy because of a tabloid story.

He was entitled to leave LFC as it didn't look like we'd ever win anything serious (who thought we'd win CL?)

Yeah i'm begining to hate an ex legend because some lazy :censored: journalist can't be arsed to come up with something decent.

Rumour thread you tool, people who want to discuss rumours should go in there, rumours from newspapers aren't worth discussing.

I cant believe owen would consider signing for  "the scum" but if there is any truth in it then like most L.F.C. fans i would never forgive him. He must realise what the feeling would be on the red side of merseyside, if not then he obviously has no scruples...and will always be known as a "judas" i dont think going to "manchester united states of america" will further his career he would be better off  staying in La Liga with a another club :nod

I did apologize and say that there is a rumour thread already on this, but I wasnt going to let it pass, this is too important an issue. BTW, i dont really care who the f*ck you are stu, and i dont particularly like the way you go about yourself, but i dont say it to you, because i respect other ppl's opinions on this board. Maybe you should do the same, and respect other ppl you dont know, to right away call them "tools" is an ignorant way to go about arguing your point. I dont care about what you have to think, or that youve had 3000+ replies, you mate, are a pest. And i think everyone on here has had just about enough of your sh1t. Feel free to PM me and take it further so other ppl can look and reply to this thread as THEY see fit, not you! Rant over.

A player can be a Liverpool player through n through - but a fan must understand that if he is a highly rated player and if he is a world class player ... he would like to win something in life. Now if he isnt going to win anything with the club he loves - ala rooney with Evertoon, then you cant really blame him for joining a Club where he would be able to play on the bigger stage.

I have no doubt that Gerrard would have left Pool for Madrid,Barca or Chelsea if you had not won the CL. Simply because he is capable of playing for clubs which have a team capable of winning trophies each year.

But now that you are Kings of Europe .. and now that you have one of the best managers in Rafa and some world class players he is staying as its possible for you to challange for a major trophy each season.

As for Owen -- nothing is concrete .. its just a tabloid story and if he has the choice of joining Liverpool or Manu im sure he will join Liverpool. But considering you have Fernando-Cisse and Barros it isnt going to be easy for him to play week in week out, since there are 3 world class strikers already. United have only Rudd, Saha has not performed and will be on his way out, even if he stays he will be a part bench player. Rooney has been used wide out, so Owen still has a chance to play regular footy.

So whats wrong if he is looking for a fresh challange?

A couple of seasons ago I was sitting in the main stand with four of my kids and ended up squaring up to a knobhead supporter who had slagged Owen off throughout the match. At the time Owen was having a lean period and was just getting on with the hamstring strengthening exercises. he was still showing better positioning than the rest of Houllier's mistakes but was getting loads of abuse for a couple of misses. This wasn't just one moron but there was a serious number of idiots having a go at him.
I really believe that this constant, unjustified, abuse helped make his mind up to move on. Loyalty is a two way thing and IF he decides to come back to the Premiership but not to Liverpool them the idiots who threw the insults should look at themselves and not start this "traitor" rubbish. We will always owe Michael a debt of thanks for the performances he gave.

Well said, the problem is these days though, you have know it all's like Banana who think players like Owen are "mediocre" with a poor attitude and poor "skills".

These are the same people who cheer his every goal and tell you how good he is when he's at his best and how he's past it when he has a baron spell.

Although this is probably a rumour, I hope he fails to perform for ManUSA. Nothing would be sweeter than LFC finishing the Premiership higher than ManUSA with Owen playing for them.

Talk about sweet revenge.

I think I need a private moment to fantasize.

Nothing would be sweeter?

How about Owen resigning, leading us to to some premiership titles and european cups (to add to the 5 already :D ) and him then turning round saying, i was wrong to leave, the experience made me a better person and player for which Liverpool is now benefiting.

You will never see the point im making. It would be a cold day if Owen decides to turn his back on his roots and play for money instead. Fans will always be fans, and some of them are more harsh than others, but they're not bandwagon supporters, and we don't expect our players to become bandwagon players. Owen turned his back on the club at the start of the year, he knew what he was going to do during the summer, and we couldn't sell him higher. Strike One. Even thinking about leaving is a strike in my book. Strike Two. But going to a club that is seen as a bigger rival than the BS is unforgivable. I hope this speculation will amount to nothing, I hope that he stays in Spain, and not return to the Prem, but to say that the Kop won't give him a harder time when he plays for ManUre and returns to Anfield is another thing. We expect the best of our players when they are playing for us, and some of it may be harsh, but we still love them. And for them to turn their back on us is one thing, joining our most hated rival is another thing all together, and if traitor is a harsher word for you JohnBull, maybe we should use the word defector. No doubt he will always be remembered for the contribution he made for our club, but it will be clouded with thoughts that he is playing for those we hate.
