Mark gonzalez in san sebastian - Getting ready for the lfc first squad

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

BTW.... understand from all here that he's best position is Left midfield/wing..... he's gonna find it hard to oust Kewell especially as Harry is finally coming good. Would be a shame if after all he hype, he doesn't get a decent shot.... Would be a greater shame if Harry had to make way..... Wonder if Rafa has any other plan to integrate both of them in the same team.

If we were only to play local competitions, the problem you describe would be real, but given the amount of rotations Rafa is doing (and quite succesfully) I think he'll just use this two very good players with different features, depending on the game. There are leftbacks who can be beaten easily on speed -> Mark Gonzalez, he really makes havoc. If you need a dribbler and you have no space to run because the opposition is very deep -> Kewell.

In fact, if we buy a RW, you might also say that we have a problem with Sissoko, but with the amount of games we have this seasons, it's necessary, now we're deep, and we're quality in that depth, which is nice.

if kewell is still here next season, i think we may well see kewell playing quite a few games as a second striker. he's played there loads of times before. i don't see gonzalez just walking into the side ahead of kewell, especially given his improvement in the last 6 months.

Against Espanyol he had another lively game, and was subbed after receiving his dosis of kicks and fouls.

For what is worth, the point of this thread is closed: Mark is already in Liverpool since Monday, where he Liverpool medical services will test his injury progress. I think they'll be happy with the tests, he's not the same player that arrived to San Sebastian, he could play in the first team right now.

Gonzalez didn't confirm the news of the radio which claimed that the work permit was inminent, but said that RIGHT now, he's more optimist, and he'll be answered definitely in June. Just in case, his Spanish passport aplication is still on course.

Good luck, Mark.

Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez has told reporters he turned down Arsenal in favour of signing for Liverpool at the start of last season.

Gonzalez told the News of the World:

"There was talk of interest from Arsenal but I wanted to play for Liverpool"

Gonzalez spent last season on loan with Real Sociedad due to work permit problems but he is expected to link up with the Anfield club again in time for next season.

I'll be in Lansdowne Road on Wednesday to have a look at Speedy. Looking forward to another victory for Stan the Man of course, but still looking forward to seeing Speedy first hand....
