what an odd answer redroots
what exactly are you saying. We don't need youth and we don't need home grown players. Do you no the rules are changing for games where home grown talent has to be a part of games. I'm still baffled by your answer about the england supporter bit. Over see's players are important for liverpool as they are all premiership teams. A mix is what is needed. Are you saying we should just buy player and not produce them?

lucas is a good young player far better then hes given credit for and the fans that boo him are desgraceful
hes fourth choice behind gerrard alonso and mascherano so why put all this pressure on him, give him time to develope, ofcourse hes gonna make the odd mistake what youngster doesnt??
same applys to babel, will the fans be happy when these youngsters leave and became great players for other clubs
booing your own players is bad but when that player is a kid its unforgiveable

the thread shouldnt question if lucas is really from brazil it should question if liverpool fans really are the best in the world

The point is average players like lucas are getting games week in week out. And i would sooner see someone else in his place. If you hadn't noticed this thread is about Lucas.

My point is Rafa is prepared to give our youth a chance. You might to read my (lengthy) post in
this thread, which is largely written by someone who has worked alongside Parry the last 10 years. It includes this :

Benítez came to the club believing there was a platform for him to put his ideas in place and take the club to where they told him they wanted to be. The reality of what he found was so far removed from the initial promises. Initially this was put down to clashes of personality, which in some cases it was. However Benítez found himself running down blind alleys at almost every turn.He was continually meeting Parry down there. The main stumbling blocks being cash, the buying and selling of players and the youth structure. All things that a footballing man needed to run smoothly and effectively. Benítez was renowned for being one of the widely respected youth coaches during his time in Spain and this was a major part of his CV. Yet he was told to keep his nose out at Liverpool. The fragmentation of the senior and junior set ups at the club was beyond his comprehension. As was the fact that he, as manager was being prevented from having any effective input in to it's running or effectiveness.

He still didn't have any real input into the youth set up which was being overseen and run by Rick Parry. Parry's reluctance to sanction or back the overhaul of the youth system has been a major problem for Benítez. A none footballing man effectively preventing a football man from doing what he was brought in to do in the first place.
It is well known within the club that Benítez wants to develop our own players. He is extremely passionate about it, yet feels this won't happen quickly enough under the present structure. Even though that long term the club will benefit both financially and in terms of having a local heart to the club. Something that he spoke of only today.

i can only go by what i see. Endless young players being brought in from all over the world filling our reserves and under 18s.
If parry signed all these then fine, he's gone at the end of the season then i take it our lads will be given a shot.

i here interviews, here what experts have to say.
I like to have my own opinion and talk about what i see.
What is see is this, an everage brazilian playing week in week out. kids being brought in from all over world. and very few home grown players getting a chance.

but our youngsters are given a shot if they are good enough, the facts are every big club in the world gets there youngsters from across the world if we juast relie on liverpool we wont get far
spearing came on against madrid and did well so to say local lads are not given a chance is a joke
facts are if u are one of the best teams in the world its gonna be hard for any local lad to get in the side
but if they are good enough they will get a chance anyone who doubts that is a fool

Lucas Leiva Considers Liverpool Exit To Boost Brazil Chances

The midfielder seems mystified at his omission from the Selecao, and admits that he may well be forced to leave Merseyside in an attempt to revive his international career.

16 Mar 2009 17:37:15

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is considering an exit from Anfield in an effort to boost his chances of playing regularly in the yellow shirt of Brazil.

The midfielder, who captained his country's Under-20 side and won an Olympic bronze medal at Beijing in 2008, has had an inconsistent season, and has failed to hold down a regular starting place in the Reds' line-up, facing stiff competition for the midfield berths from Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.

"I consider that I play a lot, but the internal competition is very high," Setanta Sports News reports the player as telling Brazilian media. "The situation doesn’t worry me right now because my objective has always been to be playing in order to be back with the national team.

"Once the season is over I will see what the best option is for me. Everybody wants to be playing in the World Cup and I will push to have this chance.

"You have to play all the time if you want to be called up."

And Lucas seemed a little perplexed by national coach Dunga's refusal to call him up to the squad, but accepted that he was in no position to argue with the manager's choice.

He concluded, "I can hardly explain what happened, but Dunga makes his own decisions. I was in the squad in the last four World Cup qualifiers and played against Bolivia, during which the team didn’t play well.

"I believe that I’m part of a list of 30 or 40 players, but I’m out of the 22-men squad."

what does everyone think about this ?

if he leaves .. then what ? Do we go out and spend 5-10 mill on a replacement ? Barry for even more than that maybe ? or just put one of the kids from the academy as backup ?

all in all... good news if you ask me.. a few good performances dont change the fact that he's been average at best more often than not..

I'm sure there'll be no shortage of offers to drive him to JL airport.

Won't be sorry to see him go, not good enough.

Rewatched the United match this afternoon. I thought Lucas had an excellent game - he's young and has a lot of potential. He arrived with rave reviews if his confidence improved I think his attacking side would really come out. I'd like to see us give some of our signings more of a chance and would definitely favour giving him another season. I think our management should be able to persuade him to stay put although he'll probably only get regular football if one of Masch/ Stevie or Xabi have a long-term injury.

as far as im concerned Lucas hasnt shown anything during his time here to make me think he'll become anything special in the future... maybe a solid CM (a Barry or Fletcher)  but thats about it...

if he wants to leave then thats fine by me.. shouldnt be a problem getting a replacement who is better than him with the money we get from him... id rather it be someone with plenty of experience rather than another unproven youngster...

Had another good decent game on sat and did things nice and tidly - the guy is maturing and still got plenty of time to develop - becoming a nice deputy to the main guys . If he does leave we would prob get a decent price for him and there will also be young spearing who is waiting in the wings - while i dont want him to go as think there is still plenty more to come for him it wont be a disaster if he does leave .
