Lucas Leiva never gonna be like his uncle, that´s clear. Leivinha is a legend alive for Atletico supporters but Lucas takes after his aunt  :D

TONY BARRETT: Boo boys are letting down Liverpool's reputation

ON several occasions in recent years, non-patriotic Liverpool fans have used various platforms to point out the differences between themselves and followers of the England national team.

One of the big contrasts, it is argued, is that England supporters are often guilty of booing their own players which is something Liverpool fans would never do.

Well there must have been quite a few of the England “faithful” present at Anfield on Tuesday night given the reception Lucas was given when introduced as a second half substitute.

It may only have been a smattering of boos from the overwhelming minority but it was loud enough to be heard at pitch side and to be picked up on by those on Liverpool’s bench and perhaps even on the pitch.

Whether Lucas heard it is not known but for a Liverpool player to be treated so badly by those who claim to “support” them is something which shames all involved.

Lucas played very well against Real last night.

He settled the midfield, he broke up their play and his passing and tackling were good.

Interesting to see he was also given the set pieces to take. For those who said he can't pass, did you see that corner on 85 minutes ? I have never seen such power and precision in a set piece.

always wrong to boo a Liverpool player. He should be sold though.

Put us back level on half-time against PSV with a free-kick that Babel headed in - he played well in that game, albeit PSV were nothing special. I think we should mix up our set-piece takers more

Im not a Lucas fan by any stretch of the imagination
But I think he has played much better (could he play worse?) in his last few games and I am putting it down to two things

1 The booing has made him realise how shi.t he has been playing
2 his haircut has made him lose the toe-curlingly cheesy headband

Give him another chance

re the free-kick thing. I think England look a better side without Beckham, for two main reasons.

1) others take the set-pieces, makes us less predictable. Even when he gets an assist or cross we still lose

2) the game spreads to other players rather than focus on Beckham. He may chip in with an assist etc, but England look a much better, more mobile outfit without him. We lost to Croatia, he went back to help out the defence and he was a prime culprit for poor clearances when we could have done with a more calming influence.

Thought Lucas' hair looked equally if not more stupid than before. He can tend to run around doing nothing much, thought that for most of his appearance midweek. He's good at quick, short interpassing, but I'm not sure his team-mates are quite that good to receive and pass back. His tackling is ok, but as likely to give away a free-kick. He's most effective when he nicks balls off players' toes, puts in short to mid-range passes and moves. His shooting hasn't impressed me based on recent efforts, free-kicks are decent but, like Beckham, I wouldn't have a player on the field for that sole purpose. Or put another way, the only person I can see him displacing is Mascherano with Alonso sitting in front of the back four and Lucas linking play in the middle of the field. Can't really see him being picked ahead of Mascherano too often mind, with Gerrard bossing free-kicks and their being players better at each skill than Lucas (unless you see short, sharp passing as a skill, as opposed to all-round passing)

Think he is progressing a bit more these days but i agree he wont ever replace the players ahead of him but will be decent enough back up for them when needed .

Well, for Lucas to have a future at LFC he has to improve many areas of his game. As it looks now he just isn't suited for the PL. Too slow, too many sideways passes and very little penatration. Doesn't do anything better than what is ahead of him.

But he doesn't deserve the abuse he is getting.
He is mostly a substitute that isn't delivering but Kuyt was a 1st team regular last season and was pisspoor for 80% of it and got no abuse.
U can discuss a players deficiencies outside the field on forums, in the boardroom or privately between manager and player but never boo a player wearing the shirt on the field.

Lucas is young and may improve.
But the fact remains at the moment he is miles away from being good enough for the first team. If he stays with Liverpool he must be loaned out. I would sooner see him sold to be honest. I am not defending people who boo players. But i think its an insult to young local players and other reserve players, (english born lads). who will never get a look in and see someone as talentless as this in the first team. When they could probabley do a better job.
Just one question to you all, if you arnt happy with something  on the pitch how to make your feeling known? ????
as you are paying to see it

You mean like Jay Spearing, who has been with the club since he was a young lad, and came on for the last 20 minutes vrs Real ?

Rafa is big into developing youth. If we had any other players good enough they would be getting the chance, but we don't.

As an aside, how many new local youth players got to play in this weeks other top four Euro matches ? None !

so that is your point, jay spearing. sorry im wrong our youth policy is fine. Its great i'm sure within weeks a whole bunch of local lads wil be coming through the ranks.
The point is average players like lucas are getting games week in week out. And i would sooner see someone else in his place. If you hadn't noticed this thread is about Lucas.

That's a typical England fans mentality and look how well that works out for England.  :Oo:
