pah, he didnt do anything of note versus Real, and he had his ONLY good game against newcastle. Well worth £6m

I could have played centre mid against newcastle, they are/were that bad.

Zidane wrote:Lucas is a good player and can be better but if he's going to make dumb mistakes consistently when given a chance I don't have a problem with Spearing getting some games, he played well enough against Madrid to earn more time later in the season.  That said I don't think the remaining games are the type of games I want to risk with Spearing being in midfield so tough :censored: for him and people that want to see him out there.  Lucas has proved he can play well and if he didn't give away that FK and penalty that ended up as goals people would have an entirely different view on him.

Thats probably fair enough, as every game is massive from here on in.
But next season the lad better be featuring more, unless we obviously go out and sign some more centre midfields.

Wouldnt be a major surprise if our manager opted to sign a new centre mid and a few more keepers  :D

Man U Old Trafford, he started right? My opinion of Lucas is more towards that he isn't good enough, he hasn't looked anything worth £6m and my preferred patnership is Alonso Mascha everyday with Gerrard behind Torres. I don't know why people defend him when he doesn't look anywhere near the quality of those two. The Good Yank just posted a line up in the match thread with Aurelio partnering Alonso, I'd rather see that than Lucas IMO, GYBS just wants to ask questions :D

oohh you are only one card away from a ban, that has to be a bit nerve racking eh?
Do you want to tell us what Lucas is good enough for? Is he good enough to replace Stevie, Alonso or Mascha, because I don't think he is even in the same ball park as those players and I along with quite a few others would like to see other members of our vast squad given a chance.

That was your reply, not really very enlightening though is it ?

I am not picking any fight, it is just something that i am passionate about - youth team players getting the chance to develop i mean.

So if Lucas is good enough, what are the qualities he brings to the team ?

I have no doubt he is a decent player, but imo he is not at all suited to our league, he cant handle it when closed down quickly and gives away the ball and then more often than not a silly freekick.
He performs better in europe where he gets more time on the ball, and would probably go onto better things in a slower league.

But he is in no way deserving of praise during his time with us and shouldnt be near the starting line up, as an accident is always just around the corner IMHO of course.

But would you say that Lucas came on and changed the game in anyway, did he have a major impact on the outcome?

No, I didn't think so either, good try at convincing us though.  :no

I was about to post something along the same lines.

In all honesty Ace I would like someone to convince me he is good enough but those supporting the lad aren't really helping the cause. I believe Spearing can do an equally capable job.

My main problem with Lucas is that I reckon there's always a mistake waiting to come from him or some sloppy play that's going to concede posession in the wrong place

At old trafford Lucas started quite well.

I was thinkin this is one of his better games credit where it is due.

Then he had a mad 10 minutes where he gave the ball away in really dangerous positions because of his lack of composure.
Nearly cost us as we know how dangerous they are on the break.

We can sometimes get by with him in the team but its always a gamble imo.

What i dont get is what sort of midfield player he actually is.

As he is too rash and lightweight to be a true defensive player and going forwards he doesnt have composure in attacking areas to make the most of posession.

He played a great ball through for Gerrard against Newcastle but come on Newcastle are probably the worst side in the country. Considering he has been here  a few years if you can count the number of performances in which he hasn't been slated on 1 hand he probably isn't good enough for us. I make it 3 good performances altogether, Newcastle, Madrid and that derby when he came on for Stevie. He is pants and is not good enough. Loan him out, sell him, I don't care, so long as he doesn't play for us next season. Having said that the boos he has been getting are out of order still.

But he is a liability.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Totally agreed that Spearing can do the same as Lucas. Lucas has had the most opportunity to play (amoung all of our young players). The fact that he played more bad games than good must have indicated something right? He did played a couple of good games for us but what about the mistake he had made in the bad ones. I mean this kind of mistake are keep happening. This is what worries me that I don't think he can cut it in EPL. The pace is simply too fast for him. He would play better somewhere in the Italian league. If Fafa could find someone interested in him, i would say sell him as he is not hard to replace. If in fact we could get Barry for 8 million, you all have to agree that he is an upgrade over Lucas for sure.
