its a bad thing when its the only thing he does, Alonso kept it simple most of the game, but he passed with purpose and speed, and slowed it down when neccesery. Lucas just passes 5 yards sidways and backwards and barely ever gets an attack going and has no idea how to control a midfield.

Look i cant be bothered anymore, if you really think Lucas is a good player then i really suggest you go and watch a real central midfielder play to see how its supposed to be done, then you might come to some sense and see what everyone else apart from you can, that Lucas isnt up to the required standard.

I actually watched the recording off the match again this afternoon to see this guarenteed truth that lucas only passes 5 yards sideways and backwards and do you want to guess how many times i saw him pass forwards into the feet of torres or gerrard and how many times him spread it wide to both kuyt and reira or insua and johnson -................... well in the double figures - with 6 notable ones with three to the feet of torres and one into the run of torres bursting into the box - distance of passes - well over 20 odd yards as well so not 5 yard ones .

Or was that my eyes decieving me ??

last season if you notice it was often lucas/alonso

which was ok cause lucas can do the scrapper role ok at times

but macherano - lucas is lacking far too much for us to be a great team

exactly  right imo

which is why it's ridiculous to suggest he should never play , never plays a forward pass etc

he is the junior member of our squad of midfield players, and as such last season was a more than decent stand-in for a significant number of games - the same is true this season, when we get our new midfield dynamo as first choice on the pitch   :nod

I rule - but it has been a good debate which we have no doubt decided we will agree to disagree but its nice to see debate can happen without insults thrown around or someone just trying to make themselves look clever and big cheers mate

Safe to say, if we are to stick with him, he needs to be a little more adventurous with his forward play... Not just the passing, but also going forward and attacking balls in the ares since it seems to be what he does best... 4 shots in 4 games with only 1 of them hitting the target (2 ended up throw ins and one off target)...

His slip against Bolton for their second goal was a mistake.. let it slide... The silly freekick he gave away just before half time could have cost us the game... let it slide.. the own goal.. let it slide.. etc etc... But when he has the ball, he needs to do more with it... As things stand, he just isnt good enough.. nowhere near to be honest...

Why we seem to be sticking with the 4-5-1 with Gerrard behind Torres and 2 holding midfielders ill never know.. It made sense with Alonso and Mascherano there because it gave us balance at the back and wasnt too bad going forward.. Now it seems to be just as bad at both ends and i dont think we'll be conceding more than 3 or failing to control games anymore if we decided to go with 2 down the middle instead of 3...

Anyways... Lucas... needs to improve if hes to keep his position without us dropping points as a result...
