Lucas has never won me over, far to inconsistent prone to making errors, picking up yellow cards for mistimed tackles, giving away free kicks in dangerous areas far to often etc..

He had a small number of good runs but never long before injury set all that progress back to where he started.

I always did wonder how we managed to sign a Brazilian with little to no ball control.

We did manage a clean sheet against Stoke away without Lucas...

i am in the same camp.
He came with so much promise from Brazil but was mediocre for a loooong time.
Then he got a little better for a while only to injure himself and reverted into being mediocre again.
When Alonso and Mascherano was here it was obvious to see that Lucas was never going to help you fight at the very top.

I've seen enough to know exactly what he is and if that is our best we sure have low standards in that position, don't we.

The standard has dropped, that's for sure. Lucas is nowhere near the likes of Mascherano, Alonso or Hamann.  He's also prone to injuries, which mean I'm all for him going. As long as we replace him with someone...

Lucas on blob is arguably one of the best readers of the game I've seen in terms of dictating play and breaking up an opponents attack ,he instinctively knows
where the ball will drop and how to quell the oppositions counter attacks ,he sits deep and does all the unnoticed shit like tackling and chasing 50/50's that fans like you don't see ,and he is idolised on the Kop for precisely those specific parts of his game , and yet he's regularly castigated by the 'cataract club' for this supposed myriad of mistimed tackles that have seen him pick up 40 yellows and two reds in 245 appearances ,you would think if you paid any heed to the perplexed that he made one rash tackle that afforded him censure every game .

In summary ,we need a specialised DM ,and if Lucas is allowed to leave those standards you mentioned will have reached a new nadir unless the club have a replacement lined up.  Lucas throws himself into more tackles than our entire back four ,maybe that's why he picks up yellows because no other player shorn of fucking Skrtel fancies it.

Why we are looking at selling Lucas ahead of Joe "useless" Allen is beyond me?

Allen alongside rubbish like Borini should have been sold years ago.  :no

+1

I cant think of any reason to even keep Allen, never mind sell him. The club's had more than enough time to see he's not good enough.

To be fair all managers have their favourite's, Lucas himself was a favourite of Rafa's at a time when a lot of people didn't rate him.

It's true what they say about absence making the heart grow fonder.

Lucas was often public enemy number one on here when he had a run in the team. Despite some efficient performances he often frustrated by giving away cheap free kicks in bad positions and he has never offered anything in an attacking sense. His best spell was under Kenny and in between bad injuries, but even then it could be argued he stood out because the rest of the team was so poor that season.

Lucas is a solid premier league player who wouldn't get anywhere near a start for City, United, Chelsea or even Arsenal who are crying out for a tackling midfielder.  But it seems that since we haven't seen him in the first team for a while, some only remember his good qualities and not the frustrating ones.

I have no problem keeping him as a squad player but let's not go overboard on how important (or not) he is to this team.
