Just thought I'd add this. Shelvey is meant to have been brilliant and ran the game easily the best player on the park according to some. Give the lad a start against Northampton. Credit to young Ngoo for getting on the scoresheet also.

Good stuff!

Would be nice indeed to see a midfield of him and Suso against Northhampton!

This player has all the attriubutes. I really hope he learns loads off stevie because hes very similar. I hope to see him play against Northamton at least. Some Europa game time also. Maybe even 10 mins in comfortable wins in prem.

Going to be a very very good footballer.

the one and only positive to come out of what was a dreadful night on wednesday. he actually has the ability to play a forward pass unlike most of our midfield.

he's a big unit aswell. reminds me a lot of gerrard 01/02. can also take a decent corner. get him in the first team now.  :D

so is he really good or are you guys overrating him? remember, our midfield isnt spectacular, so even an average player can look good.

Average players dont look good in our midfield at all mate.

Poulsen might be called an average player by a lot of fans and look at the stick he got after the man u game, even though he actually didnt have a bad game.

Shelvey isnt overrated at all. He hasnt had a game yet were he hasnt impressed. He seems to have everything. I would take him over Lucas anyday.

i just hope he doesnt end up like Nemeth and many others before him who were highly rated on the boards but ended up being sold or released.

Because Shelvey is a mile away from being as good as Lucas as of now. he may or may not be a promising kid (I'm not as mad on his as some on here but time will tell either way), but Lucas is a Premiership midfielder who probably has played 75 first team matches, he's been in and around the Brazil squad.

I'm not saying Lucas is good enough for a Premiership team who has top four aspirations because I don' tthink he is, but he's a sight closer than Shelvey is.

Maybe people are saying Shelvey will BECOME a better player, and perhaps he will, but today and as of now there is absolutely no comparison IMHO.

your right to question others on here with your post about shelvey.
please folks calm down about the lad, cause i fear he will crumble under the same pressure & hype that has surrounded others like pacheo & spearing,if he is put on a pedastool to early in his Liverpool career he could fall short of expectations put on him.

i sincerly hope he becomes a great addition to our sqaud, but let him learn the Liverpool way first. the best example for me in this respect was Gary Gilespie, he spent nearly 5 years in the ressie's before establishing himself into not just a first team regular, but a cult hero! i really think that their is far too much pressure on the young lads these days that when they our given a chance to shine, they fail big time & after wednesday night, if anyone read my post after the northampton game will see why i'm reacting to this the way i am. i for one won't get carried away with his performance,i wish the lad well but will stay realistic, wednesday night worried me & still does in that our lack of strength in depth is a real issue.

good post, there has been too many false dawns.

and i agree with Bigmick about Lucas. Shelvey can come off the bench when needed but its far too early to throw him into the starting 11. fans would expect so much out of him and it will be very unfair on the youngster.
