I was probably this guy's biggest critic early on. I had my reasons of course and I was right about a few things, but I'm happily eating a humble pie now. IMO he's been our best player in this calendar year (along with Lovren, funnily enough), and making him captain was one of the things that ***** me off the most when we signed him, but now I have to say he truly deserves to wear the armband.

I think we actually made him vice captain immediately after he joined the club  however my feelings were exactly the same and yes I know where you're coming from!  Before the season started Stuart Pearce claimed that he was the buy of the summer which I've got to be honest I found incredibly amusing!  Considering that he cost us nothing and given the contribution that he has made in both the league and probably moreso the Europa League who knows Stuart Pearce might just be right!

As JohnBarnes alluded to in the rumour thread, not too bad if we're maybe playing a 3-5-2.

But Milner playing LB as part of a straight back four smacks of desperation. Given we've still got a month to address the LB situation it's something that (as much as we love him) if it's not sorted  Klopp will rightly imo take a lot of flak for.

Milner doesn't have the legs to play LB or WB. Last season in games he was seriously struggling in the second half and his control and passing went out the window  The amount of times he was getting the ball caught under his feet or falling over the damn thing was worrying. Now he is a year older he should be on the bench from here on in and not starting at LB.

WHAT ABOUT MILLY When we got Milner on a free Stuart Pearce stated that it was the best transfer of the summer 2015 window. To be honest I thought he was off his head. Shows how much I know. Pearce eulogised about his professionalism and his ability to play anywhere on the pitch. In his first season with Liverpool he played in 40 games, scored seven goals and achieved the highest number of assists totalling 14. Against Leicester yesterday he played exceptionally well at left back and got yet another excellent assist. His attitude is fantastic. IN EVERY RESPECT HE IS THE TOTAL OPPOSITE TO BALOTELLI !!

Sterling obviously is a lot younger and may go on to do great things with City and certainly under Guardiola he looks a better player. Who got the better deal - Milner for free or Sterling for £49m? Historically Sterling doesn't get as many assists and doesn't score many more goals. Certainly hasn't got Milners football brain or experience. And quite importantly Milner isn't a nasty little prat with an even bigger prat of an agent !!

Yes I have certainly been proved wrong because I wasn't particularly complimentary (somewhat of an understatement) when he arrived and walked straight into the role of vice captain. I don't mind admitting that his contribution to the team is excellent. He was a Rogers/transfer committee purchase and they should be given a lot of credit for securing his services.

KEEP IT UP MILLY. You are a credit to your profession.

Despite my misgiving about Milner playing at LB I've gotta admit the fella's really stepped up to the plate. Not the quickest of players I was afraid he might get ripped by someone with real pace and acceleration but so far his discipline, positional sense and maturity have seen him put in some very good performances, can only hope that Moreno is taking notes.

Milner is a natural athelete i like his attitude and willingness to perform well.
His done good at LB so far.
His strong, reads the game well and performs consistently.
He always puts a shift it.

All the compliments in the world will not make him a left back, and to settle for a right sided midfielder to play in that position saddens me. If we are serious about progression then it has to be sorted?

Milner had lil sterling in his pocket. He did not give him a breather at all. Great performance by him.

Thommo I know where you are coming from but there is a fundamental reason why we have had the best first half to a season in a very long time and Milly is one of them. He has been with a club that have one the Premiership and he knows what it takes. Having the best players in their natural positions is not a prerequisite. Desire,professionalism,loyalty and a never give in attitude are all attributes that are vital in a modern day footballer. When it comes to the team synergy is an all powerful component. Team spirit is possibly at a level that we haven't seen for many years. Klopp and his assistants have to be given credit for this. The owners also must be given a massive amount of credit for persuading him to take the job in the first place. You can chuck a load of ingredients in a pan and you may just be lucky enough to pull off a masterpiece. CREATING A RECIPE IS A DIFFERENT STORY !!
