Id try and get an established Premiership forward like Defoe or Van Persie. A pipe dream I know so maybe we look in the Championship fora foward who can step up and make a difference in this team.
Whats really frustrating is that in Joe Cole we have a wonderfully gifted player who has yet to produce at Liverpool.

If we are not going to take a chance on a players record in foreign league then all we would do is shop in Prem every window or perhaps the Championship. Keane was a disaster for us but a decent top level player at Tottenham. There are plenty doing well here from abroad and no reason why Suarez or another lad couldnt do the same, every signings a gamble.

I didn't say we shouldn't sign players based on their goalscoring record in another league (look no further than Torres), or even their goalscoring record in this league, because it never tells the whole story. It's all about ability and suitability. Suarez is a good player but I don't see that his ability justifies paying £18m. I know some have compared him to Tevez, but really the two are a class apart; maybe you could call him a poor man's Tevez as they are similar in style, but that's as far as it goes. Tevez has incredibly quick feet, ridiculous control, he can go either way at speed, he also has a strong left foot as well as right, he's robust, and he works his balls off. Looking around Europe and taking into account the state we're in, we just won't be able to attract a player of Tevez's calibre, so maybe our position forces us to pay over the odds.

We could use a dirty player. We seem to have collected too many nice guys, who like to get spanked.

Agreed, as i often do when you post mate; nice to see it more often these days....
Suarez is a poacher type, and in my very humble opinion is not a good combination with Torres.
If we are going to get the best out of Fernando we to my mind need a forward who is capable of linking the midfield with the forward line, but in a different way to the Joe Cole/Gerrard mode. Another player up front who can get up, head it and most importantly have the ball control and strength to bring the likes of Gerrard, Cole and Torres into the game in the right areas, where we can hurt defences. This is for me what is missing and why we are not seeing the forward play we want.
And I am not talking about long ball either! but we need strength, pace... power!!!! and someone who is going to knock 10 to 15 goals a season in and be happy with a more all round contribution to the side. We cannot fill the team with players who can provide that moment of genius, and you cant have two of them up front. For instance, would you fancy a Robbie Fowler or a Rushie up front with Torres? individually fantastic but as a combination no good as a similar type of player. Thats why Robbie and Owen just did not work when on paper it looked immense. Houllier soon saw the combination did not work which is why Heskey got so much game time (and the best form of his career for a year or so).
Suarez does not fit the bill for me. We need the type of player no one really wants. We need a Carton Cole, a Carroll or failing that a Van Persie (to a lesser extent) who has the guile and power.......
We would all love the Van Persie, Defoe, or dare I say it a Rooney (or similar type of player).. but we already have one there.... how many teams can afford to have their main flair player up front? we already have Fernando.. we need someone who is capable of proving the ammunition. We need an unsung hero.... another Keegan, Toshak, even Dalglish ffs.. someone to link it up and help us KEEP THE BALL!
Suarez by all accounts is a diving, egotistical loon. I do not want a player like him littering up our special club.
Believe me, Kenny will find someone. And no matter who it is he will bring him on and improve him. Dont be surprised to see a shock signing. Personally if we spend more than ten million over the next two windows I will be surprised, and if we do Kenny is far too clever to waste it on what we dont need.
